    I agree with Vic. The right to have permanent physical damage inflicted on them is one measure of equality that young girls can do without. I was required to take part in boxing at school as a young boy and can vouch for the fact that a hard punch to the solar plexus is jolly painful. It takes the wind right out of you and gives you a horrible stomach ache.

    It only causes temporary discomfort to a boy but who is to say what it would do a young girl's plumbing? There would appear to me to be every chance that single or repeated blows might well cause damage that would result in being unable to bear children in later life.

    A possible way round it, if boxing is thought to be so important, might be to prohibit blows in that region and to enforce the wearing of padding on the head and stomach.
