I wanted to phone British Gas about a bill, but the phone number I always use is not working,I phoned several different numbers.with no luck just a long tone,so I had a go to contact the on line but it just comes back to me.,I know a lot of the staff are working from hope, due to the covid 19 but I should be able to talk to somebody. It is so frustrating.

Just don’t pay it, then they will call you!

The customer service number should be on the bill. Mine's 03332008899, but that's HomeCare ('we won't service your boiler, but we will take your money').

Roger, I don’t know if you have tried this link, but using the online chat might achieve something.

Have you tried Esther Rantzen? Mind you the Gas Board always said "This has got nothing to do with us".

I am spitting feathers re British Gas as I wanted to speak to a human being about my dual tariff. The first two numbers given on their own paperwork don't even exist, I found several more on their website which said waiting times to speak to an advisor could be as long as 45 minutes - hardly surprising in these times, so I waited. And waited. While waiting I made contact on their Live Chat scheme which aborted the chat after I asked for a number to speak to someone. This was mid afternoon and I continued waiting. After 56 minutes a computerised voice invited me to leave a message, which I did, including my number and asked for a return call. 48 hours later I suspect I won't get this call. I pay BG by direct debit so cannot withhold payment to grab their attention, so can anyone here kindly advise me on my next step(s). Thanks, Ken

How very annoying, if there is an email address I would email them that way at least you should get a response.
I never phone any large company I always email them in a friendly and chatty polite way, I have always had a satisfactory conclusion, well so far. LOL

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

If that doesn’t work, just cancel your direct debit. They will be trying to call you then.

If there's an 'Are you thinking of leaving...?' option, take it. Even if you're not. Works with many corporates.

Two or more companys have gone under so it is not always best to go to the one that under cuts the rest.
