She is correct. I was at a conference last year where both Cressida Dick and Lynne Owens the new head of the NCA spoke as well as a number of sociologists and people who have been involved in growing knife crime in their 'community' for years.
It is absolutely frightening when you hear from front line officers what is going on, driven by the drugs trade, in out of the way places like Ipswich for example or talk to teachers in inner-city schools.
This all started with gang wars in Manchester in the 90s the model of which has been exported to London with attendant uber-violence.
It is coming to a High Street near you - soon.
We are NOT going to police our way out of this one and anyone who comes out with simplistic calls for 'more policemen on the beat' is a fool.
As for those who talk of treating it as a 'health issue' when they understand f**k all of the disease, but it's become a nice thing to say, although the Glasgow model of crime was completely different, I despair.
