I am trying to understand the logic in this statement.
"A spokesperson added: “It is important that our immigration system works in the national interest, ensuring that employers look first to the UK resident labour market before recruiting from overseas."

The statement might also have ended by saying, “unless of course the workers come from umpteen EU member states in which case the national interest is forgotten”!

As usual HMG seems to be unable to ask the right question
"Why dont recently qualified doctors who are British citizens want to work in the NHS?"
Perhaps if they answered that then trusts would not need to recruit from outside of our borders.
As for JBs more general point that is the price that goes with freedom of movement and has allowed us to export thousands of pensioners to Spain and people like me to ply my trade across Europe

A nationwide shortage of GPs with predictions of many more retiring in the near future and the Home Office decide it is in our interests to reject 100 qualified doctors.

Seems the Home Office needs a thorough shake-up at top management level (Minister included) as they seem to have completely lost the plot.

The sheer incompetence and vindictiveness of the Home office suggests that root and branch reform is needed to bring them up to scratch.

[QUOTE="howard mcsweeney1"]The sheer incompetence and vindictiveness of the Home office suggests that root and branch reform is needed to bring them up to scratch.
Couldn’t agree more Howard, they are a complete and utter embarrassment to the ideals of British values and fair play.
As I mentioned on a different thread, the general public are not aware of the total incompetence of the Home Office and what you see here really is the tip of the iceberg.

Complete abuse/misuse of an act to combat terrorism John, no problem if they use it to deport those with criminal convictions, scroungers and beggars but they are just using the numbers game to reach targets with no understanding of who we need here or the victims human feelings.

Usual rubbish from the Guardian 'MPs and immigration experts'
It would be interesting to hear the HO side but they tend not to comment apart from:- A Home Office spokesperson said it refuses applications “in these circumstances only where the evidence shows applicants have deliberately provided false information to the government”.
