Meanwhile NHS money is being wasted on a 'lead chaplain' who does not even believe in sky-fairies!

For God's sake it's 2018. The only things which will make you better are drugs and/or operations. What a waste of money!

Let me get this right someone that has been educated to degree level will be paid shed loads of money to tell people to get on with each other. I wish such career opportunities were available during my working life.

Perhaps they don’t apply Brian? Or perhaps they’re just not good enough?

It's quite clear in the advert that HE is responding to an HMG initiative, which 'challenged Historic England and other nationally funded cultural organisations to develop and share strategies for improving workforce diversity.' In other words, 'there are too many white folks giving jobs to too many white folks'. Obviously, though, that's a misconception, for there's absolutely no evidence, anywhere in the UK, of any racism whatsoever. Ultimately, though, that shouldn't matter anyhow since, from an evolutionary perspective, we are all 'out of Africa.'

Anyone who has lived in a multicultural area knows that even second generation ethnic minorities have little interest in our heritage and history thus English Heritage and the like don't have much pull.
At home parents and grandparents regale them with stories from "back home" which hardly encourages them to study our past.

Sadly, but obviously, a good number of our 'full English' (especially the younger variety) show 'little interest in our heritage and history'.

Probably true Granny. But that’s possibly no surprise seeing as our young of today are no doubt taught that us nasty whites were not very nice people back in the day and that we should all be somewhat ashamed of our past heritage?

I know, it's awful isn't it. But that's what a discussion forum's all about unfortunately (the important word there being 'discussion' by the way). But I do so enjoy your posts, particularly for their wit, beauty of expression and, especially, erudition. Look forward to the next of your rounded, well-considered and comprehensive reflections on the issues of the day.

You know as well as I do that's not at all true, JB. But even if it were, why would that put someone off history? It might just equally encourage someone to think 'Hang on, I'm not having that, I'll do my own digging thanks.' That's my reaction when I'm being fed a line. Trouble is, we don't educate any longer, we vocationalise, and critical thinking went out the window with education.

Probably not a topic we would ever agree on Granny, but where you say “critical thinking went out the window with education”, perhaps if you changed the word “education” to “indoctrination” then no doubt we would both be singing from the same hymn sheet!

Pleased to agree, JB, if only it's to agree that we disagree on the topic.
