A couple of weeks ago we discovered that Dover was one of the 50 targets seats for Labour so in their wisdom they eliminate 50% of possible applicants for the role. Charlie has turned this into a relatively safe seat but a national surge for Jezza to reign supreme could mean a win for a good local candidate.

For Labour it appears to be 2 steps back, one step forward.
For years people were looking for an alternative to the tories, they then got Corbyn and he seemed to get people on board and at least interested in politics.
Then in one move they bring in women only shortlist which will put the nail in the coffin for labour and the Dover seat.

if only there was
we now have a tory county council never likely to change
district council tory controlled not likely to change
none of this really is in the interests of politics, the country, or Dover

Getting back to the topic Labour done surprisingly well at the last General Election due to new members signing up to support and vote for Jezza.
Now they find they can vote for the supreme leader but not their local candidate so they are hardly likely to campaign as hard next time around.

I am surprised this all female policy has not officially been challenged as sexism. If this was an all male list I am fairly sure it would have been, the same as an all black or white list would be seen as racist.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Why would any female person be happy to be patronised in this way? We saw the result in 2015 when an inexperienced candidate handed it on a plate to Charlie. The Labour party has problems that don't affect other parties, maybe the next candidate will be a ginger haired cross dresser that is wheelchair bound?

I have tried to find an appeal by the Leeds judgement where the labour party was taken to court over w.os. and lost, but cant find labour's appeal where I thought they won the appeal.
but whatever the present situation, the local party in Dover rejected W.O.S by a large majority including many women members.
Labour nationally might want to look at imposing candidates as they did around Wales which forced some male candidates out of selections who then stood as independents and beat the official labour candidate by a big margin.
Of course we have seen in Dover on a smaller scale such actions of not being in touch with local opinion.
This decision on a local and national level will come back to haunt the party
I'm dreading another 5 years with Charlie and his lot
