How could Deal Town Council not lift the rates precept this year after incurring this year the extra unplanned costs associated with the departure of the Town Clerk, the legal costs associated with this departure, the cost of the training that all Councillors now have had to take to avoid another issue like that with the Town Clerk, the drop by £26K in the central Govt grant from last year? and the renovations of the Town Hall? To be able to fund all this additional expenditure they have either increased the rates unnecessarily over the last 2 years with their double digit rate increases to have given them a surplus of cash or they are raiding the limited cash reserve held by the Town Council to get a balanced budget (assuming they have not had a windfall from some unknown source). We the rate payers have a right to know? Why are they not issuing monthly balance sheets anymore with the finance papers for Council meetings as this would tell us? Is this another case of secrecy introduced by this Labour led Deal Town Council? Why can;f the rate payer not know what the financial situation is at the Deal Town Council ? I asked the question and did not get a reply other than 'Prudent management'. This is not good enough. Ratepayers need to see the balance sheets for each month this year? Let us get rid of secrecy at the Deal Town Council

I think we all want more transparency from our councils than we get now, much too much seems to get settled behind closed doors prior to any of public meetings. I know I could be wrong but this is the impression given and one of the reasons for the success of the current petition about DDC.

Is that true Vic, if I went to the council offices and ask I should be able to see the documents?
Howard, have never seen Mr Bond on TV. I think he must be spending to much time with Bob (rag head) Frost if that is the case. But isn't Mr Bonds mother country abroad???

Trevor is from Oz.
Reading what you've put above about what Trevor said, makes him sound eminently sensible. Labour have never been very good at financial matters - at any Governmental level.
Why do you call Bob Frost a "rag-head" Chrissi ? I thought that was a non-pc term for people who wear turbans. I've never seen Bob wearing a turban.

I use the term bob raghead as that is something he publicly calls turban wearers.
bob has been pulled up over his racist comments before.

An update. Having checked my diary my first opportunity to visit the council offices during their opening hours will be tomorrow. I decided to ping off an email making the freedom of information request. I sent a further email yesterday asking them to confirm they had received my request. I have not heard anything from them yet. I will visit the office tomorrow and ask in person.

I got the requested documents. I think Deal Town Councillors might have to put a FOI in if they do not have access to them.
