It really is time both the electorate and politicians remembered what representative democracy really is all about...
No not steamrollering the desires of the majority through no matter what
No not copping out and calling a referendum at the drop of a hat
It means politicians taking considered positions, debating those positions, considering fairly and reasonably the needs of the minority and doing what they are paid to do - make a decision...
It means the electorate also having proper political discussion. where necessary lobbying their MP, or starting grass roots campaigns and going to the ballot box and voting for the person whose manifesto and track record best represents their position.
This all of course demands a much greater degree of transparency of parliament than currently, a mainstream media that doesn't treat us as ignorant children and politicians who do not descend to infantilism.
