Indeed we live in "generation rent" when I started out provided both people worked and saved hard and were willing to go without holidays and a car home ownership was a certainty. Young people starting out today have no reasonable chance of getting on the housing ladder. Just to make things worse tenancies can be as little as 6 months, hardly enough time for people to unpack and settle in to their home. Each generation says that the new one is better off than they were, not actually true today.

I never suffered a zero hours contract and when I worked well they paid me more to keep me whilst most young people today have to accept the minimum wage and smile.
