The term looks like a port-manteau of Mandelson and Tory. I won't be voting for it! (I do think it is a good idea though fraught with administration compilications.)

I've long been an admirer of Professor Kemp's books in the field of political science, especially Strong Democracies, or Electoral Pectorals. So I shall certainly be giving half a second's thought to this idea.
But hasn't he lost some hair since his Spandau Ballet days?

It's an interesting idea muted by Ross Kemp. I expect he will expand this in time to tell us who to vote for and a reminder to some 'oldies' when their birthday is for their postal vote ID or perhaps send them a Birthday card as a reminder!

I am broadly in favour as someone who has strong religious views against voting can simply spoil their ballot paper. In Australia the fine for not voting is only A$ 20 so not much compulsion involved.

I wonder what would happen if we ever got to a position of making people vote

I always vote, without fail, and if there are no suitable candidates I simply make my own up. I find there is generally a shortage of pirate candidates, which is surprising, as both Johnny Depp and Keef are well known guitarists and pirates and really deserve a vote.
