A good incentive to stay rather than quit before the excrement hits the fan post Brexit.

I can visualise the conversation in Downing Street: "Why would you give gongs to the real commoners? Shouldn't we just keep the for ourselves and distribute them to our mates?"
Sir Establishment Figure 2: "I didn't even realise that you could get them if you didn't go to my school. Oh...hang on. Give some to those 9 people we want to keep in the Border Force ahead of BREXIT."
Sir Establishment Figure 3: "Okay. I'll get 9 extra ones made."
Sir Establishment Figure 2: "Oh...also, don't forget Grenfell."
Sir Establishment Figure 3: "Don't be ridiculous. We don't do posthumous gongs. Joyce Grenfell died yonks back."

Does anyone know what Nick Clegg got a knighthood for? His main claims to fame appear to be betraying students and keeping Dave in power for five years, I can't honestly think of a single achievement by him.

He kept true democracy out of arm's reach my choosing the "Alternative Vote" (which nobody wanted). Proportional Representation it wasn't! He kept the people from having genuine control and therefore got a big gong for maintaining the status quo for at least a generation more.

I voted for the "alternative vote" as nothing else was on offer but it stands to reason that as around two thirds of people vote Conservative or Labour it was never going to happen. I would love to see proportional representation as it would mean the end of the big two running the country with 36% of the vote.

Surely as a reminder to current and future servants of democracy that it isn't necessary to have 'possession of principles' in your skill set, as 'the appearance of the possession of principles' will do just as well. How on earth would you fill the debating chambers of national and local government otherwise?

A solution to this Nick Clegg knighthood thingy. When the queen is about to present it, she should tell him she's changed her mind. See how he likes it.
