  Average median gross annual pay in 2016 was £25,002 in the public sector, compared to £22,500 in the private sector, 11.1 per cent higher.

  I would expect public sector to be higher as unlike the private sector they do not have zero hours contracts.

  This like for like stuff is a bit of a nonsense as very few jobs are in both sectors, but in the fields of health and education private is much more lucrative.

  Isn't it the Tory philosophy to shrink the Public Sector? Internal markets within councils, academisation of schools, chipping away at the profitable bits of the NHS and outsourcing council duties such as their responsibilities to the homeless when they devolve it to charity.

  Yes, to a sensible level. Go back to the seventies and almost 60% of our Economy was state owned, not far behind Yugoslavia and Hungary!
  
  Even Thomas Cook the travel agent had been nationalised since 1948 for Heaven's sake and outsourcing Housing Services and repairs by the council has at least stopped the regular run of council vans stacked with brand new copper piping to the local scrap metal dealer!
