Suggestions that it was linked to a Black Lives Matter protest that took place in the park earlier on Saturday have been dismissed by police. Organisers said the peaceful protest ended nearly two hours before the incident at 7pm. Crowds who attended had dispersed without any trouble, a spokeswoman said.

The first report linking the attack to the BLM protest seems to be the Daily Mail's. Entirely predictable. Then the BBC followed the same tack.
Nowadays dear old Auntie Beeb is so afraid of its political masters that it is quite happy to show a 3 year old clip of laughing boy laying a wreath rather than the actual footage where he was almost too pissed to stand. Or, indeed, to allow the wonderful Laura Kuenssberg to report false accounts of a Tory staffer being punched by a labour activist. So we can hardly be surprised that they might treat this incident with a similar disregard of the facts.
But at 21.12 yesterday, Cap'n, you obviously had to be quick off the mark. Despite your recently avowed intention to flounce off this forum for a well deserved break, you immediately donned your warpaint and grabbed your keyboard for a bit of cheap point scoring. Come the hour, cometh the man eh?

Disagree. Yes, when the OP created the thread it was too early to say, so it was simply a desperate smear propping up the tired old 'race war' narrative. Now it seems there's a destructive ideology at work, and that makes it political. For the same reason the 'Corona virus' thread should be in the political section, as a destructive ideology's at work there too.
