Could be a close one as Labour has chosen a strong local candidate and will campaign heavily stressing that Paul Nuttall has been "parachuted in". Only a 49.5% turnout in the General Election so likely to be a lot lower this time which could benefit UKIP as the constituency voted strongly to leave the EU in the Referendum.

The main problem for Paul Nuttall will be his past enthusiasm for bringing in the private sector into the NHS, Labour will have a field day parading past statements of his on the subject.

Like many within UKIP under scrutiny not so good
but an alternative though
if he doesn't come close(as now even his own supporters you can see on here playing down the result)
it will be the beginning of the end

This is a result from an apathetic constituency the last time, expect the turnout to be a lot lower this time. Clearly UKIP took most of the Lib Dem vote then, the question is whether Tory voters disillusioned with their party dragging their heels over Article 50 will switch to UKIP which would make it as close as the bookies are suggesting.

As Farage actually said on that programme " if Paul doesn't win, it'll be tough ".
Hardly a disaster though. UKIP will still retain its core support and who knows what lies ahead politically. Labour are in true self destruct territory and have been for some time now.
For all the tough talking Mrs May hasn't delivered anything yet on Brexit although I hope she does.
If she does slip up however, then UKIP will still be there as an alternative to umpteen millions of voters who want "out" without any fudging of the issue.
Time will tell of course!

Hi John
Your postings indicate your support for UKIP no great problem there.
like you say Labour split on many issues, the conservatives having there own problems
but to be fair the next general election will see the tories win a bigger majority
UKIP may win a seat up North, but there not looking as credible as when they started and have the same in fighting nationally and locally as the 2 main parties

Yes, you're correct Keith. My support for UKIP goes back some fifteen years when even then it was blindingly obvious to anyone with half a brain that we should quit the corrupt gravy train that is the EU. God knows how much of the UK's money has gone down the drain since then and for not much in return. You could say better late than never of course, but a situation that I will never forgive the politicians in power at the time and who were entrusted to do the right thing for our country. I appreciate others may well have different views but that's my personal take on the subject.
You're probably right, the next election is the conservatives to lose. At this moment in time you couldn't predict any other outcome, but sometimes the unforeseen does happen, although pretty unlikely in this case!
This coming by-election will be very interesting and could go either way of course and for UKIP will be a good pointer as to their current level of support. A win for UKIP or even a narrow defeat may well prove to be a springboard to greater things as well as a concern for Labour. I'm also hopeful that the party in fighting is now done and dusted but as previously stated "time will tell"!
