Yes, in my way of thinking it is time to say goodbye to the town council but keep the Mayors office open .The public should vote a mayor in. Dover can and should be run by the D,D,C,making a saving of some £1million a year. I have nothing against the town council but with the very very limited power it has it should go. We can make big savings also by cutting out a lot of the parish councils we do not need them all and what happen to the plan to bring the art locked away in boxs back on public view.

Vic, at times of austerity what you say makes perfect sense. Like yourself, I do not point at any councillors but at the mathematical and financial futility of such institutions. The money saved together with the money in some deposit would indeed go quite some way to assist progress in this town. The expense of pomp, ceremony plus a building which costs us, the tax payers vast sums every year, surely is not the best investment when we are so affected by "having to make do". It is reported that we suffer the highest number of sex crimes too. Having more officers in uniform patrolling our streets to keep our already deprived children safe would indeed place me firmly at your side Vic. I am sure those who are employed by the town council at their offices could easily be placed elsewhere.

The problem with electing a Mayor is the cost, when we had the referendum on the person 's port it drilled a hole in the DTC budget and that was for a simple yes/no answer. I shudder to think the costs involved if say 6 people stood.

Re the archway at the underpass.I don't recall consultation. The new car park in Bench Street.has the civic black railings. The blue paint every where something to do with Blue Birds. The song written by an Americian and a certain lady had made a lot of money by singing it.

Thank you for your views I think the most of the members feel the same way as I do ,so all it needs is some one to start the ball rolling a part from the town clerk, I do think the staff could get a job within the D.D.C.

Thankfully not everyone thinks the same way and its likely lots of powers will come down through to the town council once we see District councils joining together to make one council.
Lots of powers should scale down from KCC to DDC(or the new authority) and then onto the town
We should abolish the KCC
So interesting times ahead,,,,,,,,,

Hopefully the role of Mayor will remain and not just because it is my turn next year after I went through the democratic process of greasing a few palms down at the lodge.

I do question some of the things they spend money on. Last month they gave a £2000. 00 grant to Dover Arts Development, £7200. 00 to Enjoy Training Ltd and £2880. 00 to the Independent Cinema Office for consultancy.

Looking again at money paid out in July £10,000 to Dover Outreach Centre seems a good idea to me but a grant of £11,100 to St Radigunds Community Centre which is owned by DDC seems over the top when other community centres don't get anything to my knowledge though happy to be corrected on this.
