So, I leave this place for a few days and return expecting lots of debate about the now infamous Handforth Parish Council Planning and Environmental Committee meeting.....yet nothing! Have I missed it? Another thread?! Are DDC meetings as exciting?!

Good point! I don’t do Facebook, so makes sense. Anyway, just make sure you understand the standing orders, Ray!

There is a small point here after all the amusement , and the councillors could have handled themselves better.
The unelected clerk kicking out the chair and vice chair to the meeting .

So it had caused some amusement
But I'm sure it switched off many more from thinking of standing

Not me, I can't wait to get involved!
As an aside, Jackie Weaver appears to be encouraging debate on Twitter focused on getting younger people involved in local politics.

Have seen lots of individuals join PCs under the illusion that they can make sweeping changes, particularly in terms of speeding/planning etc. They have little understanding that their are lots of regulations that can’t be changed. Add to that, anyone joining then has to run the gauntlet of social media and all the ‘delights’ of the criticism that comes with any office. Sometimes that can be overwhelming

Once parties can move away from voting down party lines
And the clerk goes from Dover
We may then see change

Once again Keith we’ve on the same page. I always disagreed with Conservatives nominating candidates for Town Councils. It was far better having a wider range of Community nominees than having District Cllrs in many cases doubling up their roles & politicising Parish roles. Once political parties got involved selection processes & those of influence killed independent thought. The Vic Matchams & Mr Wantsams of this Community, characters in their own right were marginalised. Even Neil Rix who I worked with added to Town Council activity. Indeed Neil & I worked out the deal for a new Maison Dieu toilet complex with money and land allocated with Town council taking the lead & the project forward. David Hannent was another who started as Independent was excellent value .

Thank you sir thats the only + I have ever had,but there are a few things why I packed in,The main one was work I was working about a 14 hour day then +over 100miles away time I got home I had missed meetings etc and was only home about 5 hours then back working, and as you get older the more that gets to you,but also I took a lot of stick over the years and was not getting anywhere and the cost of standing for MP 3times hit my money ,so in the end I called it a day.

Paul we agree and disagree .
I fully on same page regarding political parties standing for Town councils , and really after 9 years of leaving labour I stood against them , and watched the three parties , even attended a Tory /indy meeting
Very much disorganised to many agendas.
I stood for the community with community backing.
It was never going to be long for the likes of N Collor Etc to join Dover TC. As conservatives were sitting on Deal TC for many years.
I don't share your view on N Rix he probably gave Dover TC the worst name it could ever get in his sniffing that Went world wide, even my sister in law in Singapore asked about and she knows nothing about Dover politics.
David Hannant also made big play on your view that he was independent and would never be part of the political groupings
A week later he became a conservative district councillor .
If you hold these views it's not a problem , be open about it don't lie !!
The actual set of if decision making more local I have always supported but we do also have the problem of who is elected . But that's democracy I suppose .
Hope your well Paul
