It carried on with the fuel price escalator and the massive expansion of speed cameras which served as a revenue raising tool.
Now, shamefully, this war is carrying on with more speed restrictions, road humps and so on being encouraged by Ministers. Worse of all are those dreadful 'average speed' cameras, more to come, - you know the ones, where we end up spending more time having to watch the speedometer than the road. How very 'safe'.....
It is said that at times crossing London now is slower than over 100 years ago by horse and cart. How long before that is the case for when we go from Dover to Deal!

Sometimes I see cars racing down London Road when there is a bit of empty space.
And even along Folkestone Road and York Street I sometimes see the odd racer speeding along when the carriageway permits it.
If there is a speed limit, drivers should keep to it.
People caught speeding should be traced down and fined. - The conservative declared the war on the motorist was over Barry ??
Apparently not - there isn't a war on the motorist in the true sense, public transport fares have gone up a lot more than motoring costs over the last 15 years.

- They don't get money out of me except (rarely) when I pay to park. They really hate it when people keep to the rules because then there's no revenue, just costs. I always keep to the rules and I suggest that the best way to hit back is to do exactly that. Several times in Castle St when I saw an enforcement officer hovering over a car, I would go and buy a ticket for it, and stick it under the wiper with a compliments slip. The authorities are powerless in such cases.
Speeding is pointless. In town it's dangerous, and on motorways it's much more relaxing to bumble along at 60 than to join the fast lane frenzy. And most modern cars are at their most economical at 60 so you are saving lots of dosh, most of which is tax. No doubt there are some who think that is tax evasion but to me it's common sense.
The Blog title betrays the utter necessity of affording pedestrians some clout in what would otherwise be an entirely asymmetrical bloodbath.
If only the other methods of less egotistical public conveyance had not been sacrificed upon the altar of private gain, a more acceptable alternative to private motoring would be available to all.
