This Gardening Event was part of the Dover Festival and there was another great turnout in Pencester Gardens, this time to see Gloria's colourful and glamourous, even regal, arrival with her little dog. She was met by all our own 'regal' celebs, yes indeed all that we could muster here in Dover turned out to meet her and all in fine style of their own...Mayor Diane Smallwood, Chairman of Dover District Council Bernard Butcher, among others....but more on that later when we will add to the pictures. More to Follow...soooooon! Yes, here we are...
These pictures show the glamour of the occasion and very nice too...not something you often associate with Pencester perhaps, but as you can see all made a gallant effort to put on the style and with some considerable charm too.
Above left we have Gloria Hunniford minutes after her arrival, holding on tight to little Gemma who was the immediate centre of mass attention. Also in the shot are the lovely ladies of Dover, Mayor Diane Smallwood and Mayoress Jean Farrell, both looking supremely elegant and doing Dover proud.
The picture above right shows Gloria making her opening speech from the centre pavilion..although born in N Ireland Gloria insists she is now a woman of Kent, as she has resided for a long time in Sevenoaks. So there...bet you didnt know that.
The picture on the immediate left was taken before Gloria's arrival and shows left to right, delightful Mayor Diane Smallwood, Chairman of Dover District Council the affable Bernard Butcher, and last be not least the lovely Mayoress Jean Farrell.
The last picture shown here is centrally of little Jade Parkinson who got to present Gloria with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion. Very appropriate when you consider the event. Jade recently won the best design award for the Festival of Dover, so our congratulations go to Jade with a big "well done". Also in the picture, apart from Gloria and Jade, is left to right, Jean Farrell, Diane Smallwood, Deputy Mayor Sue Jones, and Cllr Ronnie Philpotts all celebrating the occasion with enthusiasm.
The move to bring Gloria Hunniford to Dover to open this event was clearly a very good idea and proved to be a popular success. It was another superb event in our Pencester summer calender.

- Indeed PaulB it was a lovely day at Dover's Horticultural Show, very summery set of photos there with the ladies putting on the style! and not forgetting the debonair Bernard Butcher of course. Gloria was as charming as ever, truly a lovely lady. Well Done to the organisers!

- Really nice picture's of saturday glad to see the rain held off, nice one's of Diane and berny in there bring up the rear must say although very nice gloria was tinyer than I thought.

- Oh Dear!! I thought this was enjoyable pictorial coverage of a nice event but not a single person from Dover has left a comment. Nice comments appreciated from Anne in Folkestone and Jeane in Essex but nobody at all from Dover, apart from Colette and Jan who are of course part of 'the entourage' anyway. Yes a tad disappointing...so people of Dover where are you...?? As I write approx 480 people have looked at the page since it went up yesterday so hopefully it is being enjoyed...but let us know. Anyone can leave a message, no membership required.
Otherwise the thoughts flogging dead and horse leap to mind!!lol - I agree Paul but how many of the people who read the forum actually live in Dover??I did not attend the event .Weekends are a ME time.I attend my local Flower show We have several a year .I did not play a major part in the festival of Dover.Weekends is catch up on reading.Im busy now preparing for the party for over sixties in River.The whole event will cost very little.I charge £1 for a ticket .Cheap at ha;f the price.
If your a councillor outside of Dover you have to look after your own community.
Cllr Collor was there his ward. - Thanks for the comment Sue. Almost all our readers are from Dover and in and around Dover, and those reading us from overseas are Dovorians abroad who contribute like Steve Power in Plymouth USA and handy Andy in Gascony. So in theory all should be working well...in theory.
Good luck with your party in River for the over 60's..sounds like good value.
I didnt see one Cllr Collor at the weekend in Pencester, he is keeping a lower profile these days..but is it good? - Well I enjoyed it! It was an excellent two days and our Nige was there.
I won't get into the debate about the cost of Miss Hunniford but I do wish that DTC might have shelled out some dosh for a half page ad in the papers. Throughout the weekend the comments were "I didn't know it was on"
Terry - I think the pics were great,so don't think you were flogging a dead a horse on that 1.Keep up the good work.Some of us do appreciate it.
- We thought it was a lovely day, although the children were more interested in the bouncy castle and the new park of course, but I'm sure they will become more enthusiastic when their daffodils bloom in the spring. Like all events in Dover, you have to do it for a while before it really catches on, this is definately worth keeping up.
- how much is that doggie in the picture.
