Sunset Calais/Balmy days of Tropical Cruising.

Following on from my series of sunrises looking out from Dover towards Calais, long term contributor JacquiW has sent in this cracker of a shot looking back from Calais towards Dover, of yes that very same sun, and taken that very same day as my earlier shots on another thread, only this time with the sun sinking over Dover in the far distance. Looks like it was taken from the deck of a ferry, as it was about to depart Calais on its return journey. Well done Jacqui, a lovely shot and many thanks for sending it in, now we can all enjoy....and it cheered up this rather sober Poesia page too.

- By the way..yes..the picture is blurred, apologies for that but that's the way it arrived with me. The photographer clearly had too many of the ould Chianti Rusticana before snapping away. Fortunately at least it looks like the helicopter pilot was sober as he clearly managed to get the photographer back home!
- This looks like a cruise of a lifetime, the MSC Poesia, 'Poetry in Motion', talking about the Dusky Italian Goddess Sophia Loren, reminds me of the movie 'The Pride and the Passion' with Cary Grant and Ole Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra fighting for the seductress's attention on the plains of Spain whilst transporting the massive cannon across country with surging throngs of peasants to bombard the city walls. Oh, those surging ... I think I'd better stop there. lol!
- Ah yes she is a real Italian beauty. I just love her gorgeous contours, her curvaceous mounds, her long cavernous valleys, and ooh my my that deep funnel...honestly, I just long to experience her expansive eye popping top deck !
and then of course there's Sophia, and she isnt too bad either..!!! - It's good to see that MSC Cruises are using Dover for their pre-inaugaral sailing to Venice, this is definitely another boost for Dover, really positive news. I only wish I had a Godmother like Sophia Loren, now that would be something.
- I'm tempted,very tempted especially after PaulB's vivid description, chianti aplenty, sounds just like my kind of cruise. Ah Venice, a very romantic city, with the gondoliers serenading you in the wee small hours, someone get me a ticket! you're not an agent by any chance PaulB? lol!
- I understand from the Coastguard report on Radio Kent this morning that there is to be a firework display celebrating the inaugural cruise of the Fred Olsen Lines Balmoral at Dover Cruise Terminal today at 6pm. I haven't seen it advertised anywhere but should be good to watch.
- Jacqui thanks for that info..the only problem at the moment is the gathering fog which if I was to guess right at this moment could prevent it going ahead. Will keep an eye out for it and fingers crossed.

Don't know what happened with the firework display as I wasn't in Dover at the time but I wonder if it happened - anyone know? - There was a small( 5 mins) but effective firework display at 7.25. The fireworks were set off on the Prince of Wales pier directly across from the wailting Balmoral. The ship then left immediately afterwards..sounding a horn that was remarkably and unflatteringly like a cow bellowing, the usual three times.
The fog kept away but the cloud was so low that some of the fireworks disappeared into it. There was nobody at all on the seafront to see. - Oh thanks for that Paul, sounds like it was a great success then! lol
I did ask several friends who probably would have known but no-one seemed to, so I wasn't sure if it was said as a joke or not.
Anyway I'm glad you saw it and confirmed what I heard, even if it was a bit of a damp squib!
Incidentally I met your lovely daughter yesterday, I don't know if she mentioned it, but she really is a lovely girl - a credit to you and Collette. Was nice to meet you Briony, even if it was only briefly!

And yes you got the story right with the fireworks which were obviously intended as a private display. They were expensive fireworks too. You can kinda tell. - Yes Jacqui, Briony said she met you at the Aspen Unit, she does some voluntary work there, she was delighted to have met you, she told me as soon as she got home yesterday afternoon.

It should be another fab time in Dover with the arrival of this ship, and with the exciting launch. Yours truly is hoping to be able to bring you a picture of that top and most delectable of all Italian dishes ( and no, Im not talking pasta here!) when she comes. Oooh stop me palpitations...!!
