27 November 2010Christmas Lights Event: Extra Pics...
The kids are thoroughly enjoying themselves and going mad for Sid Sloane.
Some of the DTC officialdom in close harmony with the cast of Robin Hood from The Marlowe Theatre. Left to right..Former Mayor Jan Trantor, Kids favourite Sid Sloane appearing as Robin Hood in Canterbury, Alan Mehdizadel who plays Friar Tuck, current Mayor Sue Jones doing her super bit to make the evening go with a swing, the lovely Kate Birtill who plays Maid Marian, and the supportive Ronnie Philpott mayoress.
Some of the fairground rides adding to the buzz and pizzazz of the exciting evening. The kids love it all....whizzing around to their hearts content. And when the lights came on...wow! the excitement! More fans in the shot below, you can see how they packed out the front of the stage. And when they screamed they screamed for England! Yours truly is still mutt n jeff!
The picture below shows the Big Switch-On moment with the cast of Robin Hood as mentioned previously. The countdown rang out and the screams got louder and louder...and then all the lights came on. Fab! We dont know who the chap with the microphone is though, if anyone knows let us know and we will add it, but over on the right hand side we have that man Sanity Clause again, the original and real genuine one, ahem!..in the guise of David Hannent again, deputy mayor extraordinaire ( see the earlier item below).

Big Dave hugs Little Sue
at the Christmas Lights Extravaganza.
The shrill shrieks of hundreds of teenagers rang out in Market Square last night. Such ear splitting decibel levels had never been heard in Market Square before...not at such an earth shattering level. How windows didnt shatter across the town I dont know! Mostly all for super kids favourite Sid Sloane who came to do the 'Switching-On' of the Christmas Lights.
Sid is appearing in Robin Hood at The Marlowe in Canterbury and popped over to do the honours in a packed but freezing Market Square.
The kids were encouraged to cheer louder than Folkestone, which they duly did. Dover won the day and in some style too.
Lots not forget though that the Dover Town Council put on this day long event, so we were happy to capture the big two in the thick of it last night. They were great! Mayor Sue Jones left and Santa himself. But of course we all know dont we....Santa is none other than David Hannent, Deputy Mayor, and tip top forumite.
We will have more pictures later, they are still yet to be processed, and some featuring the main man himself Sid Sloane. Sid was one of the best celebs ever to switch on the lights. He played it up for the crowd and they loved him for it....and at the same time to the delight of many, it was all showing on our Big Screen as live as live can be. More later. PB.

Snow
......
in November!
Brrrrrrrr!!!
Much of the nation is covered in snow. Ooop north they are experiencing very heavy weather indeed, as we have seen on our news programmes. But although vaguely forecast in a maybe ..maybe not.. scenario for this region, it nevertheless in actualite did materialise this morning saturday. Wide eyed kids woke up to the thrilling vision of a snow covered landscape...calling mum and dad in hysterical excitement to 'fetch out the toboggan!'
Generally across the country there was fair warning, so the nations gritters have been out in action all week. Pavements and roadways are covered so traffic should flow in most cases. There is even something called an anti-icing spray being used on the Jubilee Way viaduct. This must be a new invention!
Dover has some exciting events on today saturday. The big sell-out match at Crabble should be okay to go ahead. The Christmas Light Switch-On event is also on all day between Maison Dieu House and Market Sq. Official switching on happens at 6pm with the Mayor of Dover Sue Jones and kids entertainer Sid Sloane, but also there are events on all day. So something for everyone there. See the advert on our Anchor Page and also see the threads in our Members Club Forum for more info.
Pictures shown were taken early saturday morning just after daybreak, showing the seafront here in Dover looking picturesque.
If anyone gets a good shot please send it in, we are always happy to see good pictures. Snow always presents excellent picture opportunities so get snapping guys!
