10 April 2011Love Letters in the Sand....
Well this is something of a first for yours truly. All the years I've lived here I have never before seen a love letter in the sand. Romance is alive and well it seems and maybe even flourishing. Perhaps this is due to the austere times we find ourselves in, as hardship...well so they say... brings people together. Of course it's not really sand is it here in Dover, more like boulders in some cases, so perhaps that inhibits the romantic activity. But yesterday in the blazing sun, there it was, the first LOve Letter in the Sand.
On an educational note they haven't quite managed to spell Sophie right...or perhaps it's an all new interpretation of it, but who's quibbling??
Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold.
Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain....
There we are and it's not even Valentine's Day....The tide eventually washed it all away as time and tide waits for no man.
Going back a bit. Anyone remember the Pat Boone hit of the same name?? PB
