Dover Visited by Royalty!

We had multiple Royal visits here in Dover yesterday in the shape of three exotic and oh so regal cruise liners..The Emerald Princess an enormous beauty, The Princess Daphne a beauty in miniature form, and somewhere in between sizewise, another beauty...The Empress. Yes all paid us a visit yesterday and were welcomed here by Dover's own brand of blazing sunshine. So it was a very very busy and successful day for us here in Dover...
.............timely then to receive the following press release courtesy of DHB. Many thanks to them.

British Ports benefit from growth of cruise market...

Over Half a Million visits to UK ports of call.

Figures released this week that show a 21% growth in passengers visiting UK ports of call have been welcomed by CruiseBritain. Overall, cruise travel from British ports rose by 10% in 2010 and UK ports attracted a third more embarking passengers from overseas.

With one in nine package holidays now being a cruise and a no-flying element increasing its relevance for 28% of the market, the Passenger Shipping Association’s 2010 Cruise Review clearly shows the resilient growth of the cruise industry for British ports. Southampton has become the busiest cruise homeport in Northern Europe but other ports around the British coastline – from Dover to Newcastle – are also benefiting from the continued popularity of cruise holidays.

A record 116 ship visits from 53 cruise lines brought 541,000 visitors to UK ports in 2010 with 47 ports receiving at least one call. This represents a more than doubling of popularity since 2003. With each passenger estimated to be worth €97 (European Cruise Council 2009), cruise tourism generates €52million to the local economies.

"Northern Europe shows the strongest growth rate as a destination over the last decade", commented Kate O’Hara, chair of CruiseBritain, "and we continue to work to win a share of that for British ports. Overseas passengers embarking in the UK now account for 28% of all embarking passengers and this plus the half a million ports of call visits combine to show the strength and potential of Brand Britain".

O’Hara added...."Plus, the British Isles can offer unique itineraries for domestic tourists and figures for these cruises continue to grow with 22,000 UK passengers taking a Round Britain cruise in 2010" ENDS

*HELLFIRE CORNER*
25th and 26th JUNE 2011

FRONTLINE DOVER

The Hellfire Corner Association has received a significant grant of £2,900 towards the cost of this year’s Frontline Dover weekend from the Ministry of Defence. We are also grateful to Dover Town Council for their support, providing £500 in grants and free use of the bandstand.

The weekend will be an Armed Forces Day event and will include the presentation of veteran medals and armed forces charities will be represented.

A more exciting programme of events than ever is planned and the bandstand entertainment will be even more varied than previously.

A star of our 2009 weekend, singer and comedian Dickie Lynes, will be returning and we will also see all our old favourites, including the Swingtime Sweethearts performing.

MONEY: "We are still more than £3,000 short of covering the full cost of the weekend" says Barry Williams (that's him looking very dashing above) "and are seeking corporate sponsors and further grant aid as well as doing our own fund raising. If anyone would like to offer sponsorship for the weekend please call me Barry Williams chairman of the event on 01304 213902 or email hca@regency-ifa.co.uk. "

Country Brides of Faversham have lots to celebrate!

The Faversham store has reopened after a refurbishment and is stocking the new Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo to complement the existing range from Alfred Angelo available in store. Sylvia Lawrence says “Every girl dreams of having a fairy tale wedding and many have grown up looking at Cinderella and Ariel wishing they could have something similar, well now they can! Those girls have turned into brides and these brides are enjoying all the different styles that this range has to offer"

The Dover store recently signed an exclusive deal with Alfred Sung Bridal to be the exclusive Kent Stockist. Jenni Sutton says “I was delighted and honoured to be asked if I would consider having this range. As a new store, with only 6 months in Dover it’s a prestigious brand and something I cant wait to show brides.I already have some top names with Mori Lee, Ronald Joyce and Sophia Tolli so this should make Dover a place to visit for brides." On top of this internationally renowned brand they have also signed up to Callista - For Girls with Curves. Both stores specialise in plus side bridal gowns and have more than 40 dresses in a size 18+ so this range just adds to the exciting choices that can be made.

Both stores are offering a wide range of shoes and with brides opting to co-ordinate their bridesmaid dresses with the ladies shoes, they are able to offer a shoe dying service for brides when they order shoes, with brands such as Pink , Belle and Rainbow Club, and have even sourced some bridal wellingtons recently.

Both stores can be contacted via the website at www.countrybrides.uk.com, or by Linking on Facebook , or ringing either 01795 539222 or 01304 212745.

Celebration:

Celebrating victory in Blakes of Castle Street on friday night, after their election successes, we see a red rose flanked by two blue thorns. Yes it's none other than those long term servers of the community Jan Tranter, she being the red rose for Labour in the centre, flanked by those two blue Conservative thorns of legend... Nigel Collor left and Roger Walkden on the extreme right.

A quiet glass of wine was sipped slowly to the sound of ideological discussion as several Labourites mingled with the veteran Tories. But all good fun, the results were in and the frantic nature of campaigning was over.
