Maggie Stephenson-Knight of the Dover War Memorial Project has just sent me her latest high colour Newsletter. Top shot in the Newsletter is the picture we now show above. I asked Maggie, who is also a member of Doverforum, to send it over to us here and she duly did. We really wanted to feature it in our top slot..and here we are. It really is a super special picture, Joyce even managed to get South Foreland Lighthouse into the shot. The Spitfire comes home. Excellent stuff indeed! and a huge well done to Joyce Banks. PB.
Here is a section from the Dover War Memorial Project Newsletter explaining more....
As we mark the 71st anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and the 75th of the first flight of K5054, here’s Spitfire BM597 heading for the Battle of Britain memorial at Capel-le-Ferne. A veteran of World War II, she served with 315 and 317 (Polish) Squadrons RAF. Now owned by the Historic Aircraft Collection, she’s a film star too! In 1967 she went to Pinewood, becoming the pattern for the glass-fibre replicas in the film “Battle of Britain”. The photo is by Dover War Memorial Project super-volunteer Joyce Banks, who for a special birthday present accompanied and observed the Spitfire in a helicopter flight from “Action Stations!”.

Police appeal for information after serious sexual assault
Kent Police is investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault in Folkestone, Thursday 29 September 2011.
A 38-year-old woman contacted police just after midnight to report that she had been sexually assaulted by four men in the St Mary and St Eanswythe Church graveyard in Priory Gardens.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Julien Lawton said: “The victim had visited two local pubs, the Lord Morris in Guildhall Street and the East Kent Arms in Sandgate Road, that evening.
