11 November 2011Sunday's Remembrance Pictures
The sun shone on Sunday's poignant Remembrance ceremony in central Dover on one of the warmest of November days...the glorious weather made such a change from last year's drizzle and gloom. It eventually became quite warm during the service, and as many people were dressed in full overcoats, several collapsed in the unseasonal heat. As usual an excellent crowd turned up to take part in the exceptional ceremony and service, carried out as ever by the Rev David Ridley. The top picture taken by
Karol Steele shows the event perfectly.
The picture left also by Karol Steele reminds us of the long shadow of war.
Veteran Ian Lillford strolls quietly around the laid wreaths on sunday, just after the ceremony was over. When the service stopped, when the respectful crowds had slowly ebbed away, Ian took a quiet moment to himself. As many will know, Ian is a long time long term member of this forum and we were delighted to snap this picture. Picture Paul Boland.
Another long term forum favourite Cllr Nigel Collor prepares to lay his wreath. Nigel was laying his wreath as part of the political contingent, and laying it for the Conservative Party. Nigel is one of our local Cllrs at KCC and also a cabinet member at DDC. We will have more pictures of the event in due course. Picture Paul Boland.
