Just in time for the weekend the traditional bank holiday weather struck home. The picture above shows how rough the seas were as we see the Norman Spirit, flagship of the LD lines effort on the run to Calais, getting a right ol' hammering from thunderous waves as she nears Dover harbour. The picture was taken on the turbulent saturday and makes it all look better than it actually was in reality, believe it or not, as it just co-incided with a ray of sunshine bursting through. Endless families full of holiday joy gathered at the Dover Hotels all on their holiday break, not knowing what miserable sea conditions were about to befall them.
This lovely picture was taken by ace man and tip top forumite John Mavin, and as you can see John was right down there in the thick of the watery action as the Saga Sapphire arrived in Dover on Friday morning. In the foreground right, on posed cue, the Trinity House Vessel called Alert passes slowly by.. making for the great shot. This painterly picture by published author John, shows Dover Harbour early morning and it all looks very majestic and tranquil indeed, looks great even though the light is a tad grey, or perhaps even more so because the light is a tad grey. In the background Dover itself sleeps.....
