Big Beach Clean Up....
You will remember the feature we did on the Big BeachWatch clean up a few days ago..see feature 284 in All Recent Features..well the pic above shows some of the volunteers who took part in the event this time around. There were 'makeover' clean ups in several localtions and here we are with a section of the volunteers on Shakespeare beach. 63 people in total volunteered on Shakespeare Beach and a good many of them youngsters which is great to see. The total weight of litter collected was 267 kgs in 68 sacks...a staggering amount. On my ready reckoner that is even more than last year. Well done all. See also the thread in our forum..

Lifeboat Fundraisers....
Swingate Inn quizzers continue to support Dover lifeboat
The regular monthly quiz held at the Swingate Inn has raised more money for Dover RNLI and recently the quiz master and a group of regulars visited the lifeboat to see first-hand how the money they have raised is used.
Quiz master, Peter Jones has been running the quizzes at the pub with support from the pub’s landlords for several years and has now raised over £2,200 for the RNLI.
Recently Peter and some of the regular quiz goers visited the lifeboat station and three of them joined the crew aboard the lifeboat for a short exercise. On their return they got to experience the real excitement as the lifeboat was requested to go to the aid of a yacht with engine difficulties. Fortunately, the yacht managed to restart its engine and as the lifeboat was not needed it was soon back alongside its berth where Deputy Coxswain, Jon Miell was able to receive the presentation.
New teams are always welcome at the friendly general knowledge quiz which are held on the first Monday of each month. It costs £1 per person to enter and there are prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams. For more details or to book a table please contact the Swingate Inn on 01304 204043.
Peter Jones said: “It is a real pleasure to support such a deserving and worthwhile charity and particularly insightful to see the sort of work our fundraising supports.”
Dover Lifeboat Operation, Manager Roy Couzens said: “It was a great pleasure to host Peter and the quizzers at the Station so that they were able to see at first hand the essential service their support allows the RNLI to provide for those using our local waters.”
See the photograph of the presentation above from the Swingate Inn quizzers.. left to right we have: Lesley Jones, Peter Jones, Cal Price, Maggie Stewart, Jon Miell (accepting for the Lifeboat), Bill Smith and Marion Howard.
