Below you can see the same Swordfish as it sweeps slowly across the harbour in a beautiful yet poignant display..makes one think of the sacrifice made, especially when the flyers had so little chance against such awesome odds. More in our Forum.
A great turnout by the people of Dover and beyond to see the spectacular unveiling. Guard of honour by the sailors of HMS Kent moored at the Prince of Wales pier. The Royal Navy's First Sea Lord, the Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope did the unveiling honours.
A great favourite, loved by one and all, the spectacular Spitfire rattled across the harbour in a fabulous blistering display. The noise and spectacle as it blasted over the nearby buildings and burst into view was absolutely terrific. It climbed and rolled and turned, and powered across the harbour at breakneck speed. It totally thrilled the watching crowd who all gazed skywards in open mouth amazement. There was a tear in many an eye as it tilted its wings in that traditional farewell as it went away.
It's not everyday you find these two parked on your lawn. These planes thrilled the crowds all day, and were especially loved by small boys and grown up boys. They provided a splendid backdrop to proceedings. The Spitfire and the Messerschmidt 109 E.
