Boxing Day Dip:It was a cold gloomy morning as all the enthusiasts gathered under a menacing sky...the wind whistled off the rafters and those wearing nice big warm jackets gazed upon the near naked shivering swimmers with a comfortable smugness.
" There but for the grace of God go I" was yours truly's innermost feeling as he watched the teeth chattering (and soon-to-be) terrors of the deep ready themselves. However, these near mad volunteers, all in great spirits, managed to smile endlessly, even though they knew what shivering grisly fate awaited each one of them. All Mad!..but of course all great fun. In an instant someone gave them the all clear, and with a blind enthusiasm unseen before in modern times, the horde galloped with gay abandon into the freezing spraying surf! Strewth!
Who said Dover wasn't at the cutting edge of high fashion...just look at those shorts! That's quite a collection of Bermudas, probably some of the brightest apparel we saw all day. These guys are ready and revved up to face the raging surf! No fear!
Oooh I say! so dazzling in pink, and its such a lovely shade of pink too...I must get hold of their dressmaker! Very colourful turnout from these guys, they certainly brightened up proceedings. The girls here are from The Bull Pub in Elms Vale and the guys are from Ashfords Network Rail. Last year doing the same thing they raised £2000 for Demelza House charity. Well done them!
Aaarrrrgh!! the freezing shock to the system kicks in. Okay so now we are in the water, lets get the hell out of it as fast as possible. Who said this was a good idea..my corpuscles are turning blue!
Fun and frollicks all round. More enthusiasts flounder and frollick in the freezing briney blue..ermm perhaps more slate grey than blue! And a great time was had by all! Crumbs! I almost got my feet wet getting these shots!
Ive heard of people turning blue with the cold but this is ridiculous. Girls..I should see a doctor straight away..But wait, hold on,..oh its really only blue theatrical paint! Gosh they had me fooled there for a minute. The guys on the right went in in full white clown attire and a great splash they made. At first glance they looked like two white whales in the surf together. Its rare to see two white whales at once, according to noted scribbler Herman Melville anyway. Moby Dick has a lot to answer for. Well done lads!
Such a fetching attractive female on the left. The pink hair is really rather enticing, so much so that I almost had a heart murmer when I found out that it was none other than the perennial Vic Matcham himself..doyenne of the silver surf! who never lets a splash go by without having one himself. Good one Vic, very colourful. The little lad is forumite Terrismarks (Terri Deane) son Sean who was in there with the best of them, now safely wrapped up in a warm towel and quite right too. As ever we had lots more pictures so if you missed out apologies for that, but we may get you next time. PB.
