30 December 2009At the grand opening of Jasin's Cafe Bar in the new Watersports Centre.
It is always exciting to see something new opening in Dover and this new restaurant called Jasin's at the new Watersports Centre is very exciting indeed and situated in a location to die for..overlooking the beach and the ferries. Even on a gloomy wet December day the location looked impressive and in the full flight of summer it will be totally terrific. Yesterday we popped along to see the ribbon being cut in fine style by both Mayor Sue Jones and MP Gwyn Prosser. This was not the opening of the building as a whole, but the opening of just the restaurant bar area, which is now fully open for business. So pop in soon.
The picture above shows that man about town Nigel Collor enjoying a rare drink! Nigel is very busy these days what with his loftily held positions, not only in the cabinet at DDC, not only being our representative at KCC, but also has a considerable input into Charlie Elphicke's parliamentary campaign on behalf of the blue blue Tories. Here he finds time for some fun and frivolity with Doverforum's Colette Boland on the left and the Mayoress herself Ronnie Philpott on the right.
A couple of pictures here to show the layout of the new facility. You can see here the glorious location. The restaurant itself is in a particular no nonsense easy style and should make people feel comfortable right from the off. Simple chairs and tables but you will be pleased to hear that all legs are rubber tipped, to cut down noise. Metal on wooden floor not ideal perhaps, but the rubber tips keep all fully relaxed, noiseless and functional. Also worth noting that a new marina will go right outside the windows there offering even more splendiferous views and excitement.
Most of those gathered are shown here with the exception of the media guys and one or two others perhaps. You can spot all your favourites there...hours of amusement brought to you by Doverforum. You cant say we dont entertain !!
The picture on the left here shows restaurateur Jasin Kaplan who is running this new franchise. Jasin also runs the restaurant on the end of Deal Pier which by all accounts is doing rather well. Also in the picture is Mayor Sue Jones, and also Leader of DDC Paul Watkins. Paul said that Jasin had made "considerable impact in Deal" and he went on to say that the new Watersports Centre is the "first of many regional development projects for Dover." The picture on the right shows DHB bigwig and Chairman of the Sea Sports Development Trust, Bill Fawcus, with the architect John Haynes, who designed the building, he is from Simon's Design Group in Lincoln. On the right we have Susan Fawcus, wife extraordinaire to Bill.
Picture shows Bill Fawcus opening proceedings. There were speeches from himself, Gwyn Prosser(that's Gwyn on the right), Paul Watkins, Sue Jones, and Jasin Kaplan...all mercifully short so as a consequence possibly more interesting...Gwyn paid tribute to the "hard working officials of the Trust and the DHB" and wished it all every success.
Oft photographed duo here .. Dover Business Support Manager Roger Walkden and DF PR Colette Boland with two top flight officers from the DDC, Mike Dawson, Head of Planning, and Tim Ingleton, Head of Regeneration, all enjoying a glass of wine. Picture righthandside shows Yam Zendera, roving reporter from the Dover Express, manfully hugging the ladies. ColetteB on the left and Mandie Sehmbi of DCAL fame on the right. Mandie looks as though she may be enjoying the cuddle there!
And the final two pictures.. phew! The lovely Gill Gough from the Regatta Core Group enjoying a chat with David Foley, the CEO from the newly revamped and energised Dover Chamber of Commerce. On the right its Mr and Mrs Bill and Susan Fawcus again and a very pleasant couple too, Bill was a big driving force in this whole process and is to be congratulated for the sustained effort.
Thats all we can fit in picturewise... Leave any comments below, or if you are not a member leave a comment on
