22 April 2010Shadow Foreign Secretary
in Town.
William Hague, former Leader of the Conservative Party, and the current Shadow Foreign Secretary, visited Market Square here in central Dover yesterday (wednesday). In the picture we can see the legendary man himself on the left hand side of shot, with local Conservative candidate Charlie Elphicke sporting the dazzling blue Rosette, and all under the shadow of the famous Dover Castle.
Unfortunately we are unable to tell you much about the visit as Charlie's rather below par publicity machine failed to tell this highly topical website that the shadow foreign secretary was coming. We can only assume the visit was to bolster Charlie's campaign but other than that we are whistling in the wind. Perhaps this same 'publicity' team should note the viewing figures at the top right of this page. Those figures are for this page alone!! never mind the rest of the site! Thousands of Dovorians view this site weekly so I would have thought their vote would have been of interest to the Conservatives. But on this showing clearly not. PB.
Picture is by one of those aforementioned viewers Peter Garstin, who is the proprietor of Blakes in Castle Street.
Many thanks to Peter for the picture.

From Earlier in the Week:
Conservative Parliamentary candidate Charlie Elphicke has praised the quality and dedication of the many people working in social care in Dover & Deal. Visiting the Riverlea residential home in River, Charlie spoke to residents about their experiences and heard how well looked after they are by the management and staff at Riverlea.
Charlie said:
“While politicians debate the future of social care, it is important to remember how many dedicated and excellent carers look after older people. I heard what a great job they do here at Riverlea. We should always remember how well so many older people are looked after by people who care so deeply and show kindness, concern and compassion every day.
Well done to Riverlea and the many other residential homes in our community who do such great work.”
