The Masked Ball
....at the Town Hall
(See the Comments below.)
The Town Hall was ablaze with high stepping glamour on friday night when the
Mayor's Annual Ball was held in fine style. Yes all the locals from the 'who's who' Dover list were strutting their annual stuff on that mean mean dancefloor of delight. So much glamour and all gathered together under one roof . It was just great! The Town Hall throbbed to the rhytmn of the big band sound and many a toe was tapping and twitching for action.
Even leaden footed yours truly was seen to give it a go on the dancefloor, and managed to whirl a dervisher or two without falling on his fandango!! And all this after an excellent three or four course Christmas dinner(I lost count with the courses) and copious wine.
It is always amazing in a way how the food can be so good at the Town Hall, as its not a permanent restaurant or anything of that nature, but very good it always is. So a well done to the caterers there.
The picture above shows our very pleasant Mayor, the lovely Diane Smallwood, with yours truly PaulB, editor of this website Doverforum. Diane is an excellent Mayor, ever cheerful, and this event raised yet more needed money for the Mayor's Goodwill Fund.
This one caught the girls by surprise! Just when Councillers Anne Smith and Ronnie Philpott were posing ever so elegantly, up came Town Clerk Mike Webb to grab them from behind which startled all just as the camera flash was popping. The result is a fun based picture which Im sure all will enjoy. On the right we have a younger couple. Its nice to see a few younger faces at the Town Hall because generally it is mostly an established list of the establishment. But this is Stuart Richardson and Claire. Stuart is the new Coxswain of the Dover Lifeboat. A brave chap for sure taking on that roll.
Conservative Candidate, the engaging Charlie Elphicke, who will fight resident MP Gwyn Prosser in the next general election, was mingling in that way that politicians do. Yes thats Charlie on the left in both the above photographs. In the shot on the left he is with Mayoress Jean Farrell and her husband. In the shot on the right Charlie is seen with former Mayor and Councillor Jan Tranter and Councillor Mick Smith. All having a very pleasant time.
Attractive Deputy Mayor Sue Jones enjoying herself at the event. Sue is always great fun and took part in the excellent parade of masked beauties. We were not able to get enough pictures of the masks because our camera was accidently dashed to the floor in mid proceedings rendering it useless. Repairs are needed for the mangled wreckage.
Barry Wadsworth-Smith, otherwise known as Posh Barry, was called to the fore with his little Kodak for this shot and after running the picture through a variety of hi techery we have arrived at this finished product above...Lovely shot of all the girls giving it some welly. This is by no means a picture of all those who took part but just a selection. Anne Smith won best mask as far as I remember.Thats the lady herself on the extreme left. But arent all the masks magnificent here in this shot. A great effort by all.
Here is a selection of the WAGS and forumites. Some with masks some without masks. All very glamourous ladies of course...Jan Tranter, Colette Boland, Sue Mullan and last but not least lovely Linda Hannent.
Ah the high stepping strutters!!. That David Hannent, Councillor to the stars,... is Fred Astaire reborn. Those nimble feet of his are back in fine working order after a little recent hospitalisation. He high steps this way, he shuffles and shimmies that way, all the while gliding across the floor as if on a high plane of ball bearings. Linda is Ginger to his Fred. Although in the picture above David has given Linda a bit of a rest and shuffles and whirls ColetteB across the floor in her stead...oooh that pulsating beat has a lot to answer for. In the background you can see Jan Tranter, who is a mean dancer in her own right, taking a bewildered Barry W-S to the ecstatic and dizzy heights of a spanish flamenco!!Well it looks like a flamenco but it could be a pasa doble or even a rumba...but as long as its not catchin!
This final picture shows Julia Benstead looking magnificent in red dress and red mask as she leads out the march of the masked ladies, and great fun it was too.
We had camera failure at this point and were not able to capture the rest of the marchers, but readers will catch the drift. It was all great fun and full marks to all the sexy ladies and their magnificent masks, dresses etc etc.
This Event I believe was a sell out, but if you ever fancy giving it a whirl yourself make sure you get in early next year and you too can join in the fun.
END.
Paul I will send over the pic I took of you, collette and the girls in a min, but after only 3 hours sleep I am a bit slow today lolol
