18:3031520The other thing Disney is a large area (nearly the size of Manchester) so it would be better to twin with an area rather than a Town
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

04:0331553Interesting point made by JHG that Disney are going to be cruising from Dover next year. This would definitely put Dover in a strong position to be selected for twinning. The Disney website shows several cruises by the Disney Magic in June and July either to Northern European ports or to Barcelona. Their description of Dover is priceless, estate agents eat your hearts out, here are some edited highlights:
"Your European escapade begins in the English port of Dover, where you revel in the charms of this quaint town before heading to Cherbourg ......... You and your family get a taste of intrigue at your first stop of Dover—the merry little town that is known as the "Gateway to England." Here, you discover a world of charming shops, cafes and cobbled lanes.........Today, Dover is the world's busiest harbor, one of England's most active cruise liner ports and a major dock for freight, as attested to by the ever-present fleet of colossal cargo ships docked there. On a clear day, you can easily see France from Dover's shores........While in Dover, be sure to take in some of its exhilarating sights, from the handsome White Cliffs to the city's massive castles and fortresses. .......If you prefer to stay in the city limits of Dover, however, there is plenty to see: from the remnants of Roman structures, to one of Europe's best-preserved Roman lighthouses on the site of Dover Castle atop the White Cliffs, and even the well-maintain Roman Painted House, complete with decorative frescoes—proof that Romans settled in Dover in the first century AD. ......A far cry from the tumultuous days of World War II, life in Dover today is characterized as calm, pleasant and idyllic. Locals spend their leisure time walking along the shops on the promenade that borders the marina, or hiking the many cliff-top trails around Dover Castle. Visitors find that lush hillsides, fresh air and sea breezes are the features that set Dover apart from the rest of urban England. ...Today, Dover is a tranquil seaside city that nonetheless maintains a naval base in addition to its bustling commercial port. Discover the city that features an enchanting fairytale ambiance and offers touches of the historical around every corner. "
Schools would need to highlight the above aspects, glossing over the more nonsensical bits. The castle is the obvious main attraction. Perhaps they could be persuaded to put on a bit of a show when the Disney Magic is in port, all the more customers for them. Lots more flags and bigger ones at that. Illuminations and fireworks. Maybe have collapsible pointy roofs on top of the towers so that the castle looks like one from a Disney movie, similar to the fairytale castles on the Rhine. Plus the excitement of a cable car ride to the castle if it ever transpires.
Other points would be the easy access to Eurodisney via the ferries or the Channel Tunnel, the high speed train to and from London, and the White Cliffs with obligatory bluebirds (maybe spray some of the seagulls).
Not sure who to recommend for "your town's inspirational person." Roger might fit the bill, with a long white beard and a wizard's hat. Or Vic as Mr.Dovor.
