Jeez, it isn't rocket science: if it's rubbish, take it away, if it's dirty, clean it. isn't that what we are paying them for?

Try living in this road, its a nightmare, people tsake pride in there surroundings, want to recycle, but are so upset with the service they get(or dont get!!)
not rocket science, but at mo its poor
If the service is poor, ditch the service!!! If they are not taking away the rubbish properly (and how hard can that be..?) they are not doing what they are paid to do. I am sick of having rubbish left on my road, too, although it isn't as bad as some. The binmen leave detritus all over the road - clearly seagulls strew some around, but the binmen strew the rest - and no-one comes along afterwards to pick up. We used to have a great street cleaner, haven't seen him in months, and meanwhile glass is left to mince tyres and cr*p lies along the roadside.

So its not just this rpoad then?
lets have some more people power i love it
im fed up of having to keep moan about the poor service
Everyone here was up for recycling but it was messed up so much so residents switched off, thats sad cos there is a need.
Lets hope when contracts are drawn up these things can be taken into account

I can only say my neighbour the one with the pick up truck leaves her black sacks out overnight with the result the bags are sometimes picked at by seagulls or foxes
The refuse collectors pick up every bit of rubbish .I think she was very lucky .I have to get up early and put my black sack out ,even if im still in my nightie .
I thanked the guys as it was because of my neighbours attitude the rubbish was littering the street .I see the older (even older than me ) residents waiting to the day of collection before putting the sacks out ..

Dooesnt happen here Sue, some of the strewn rubbish is created by SITA chucking the sacks around to save a journey and save climbing steps.
but its a nghtmare.
dread thursdays here

i am sure that the contract for the sita rubbish collections cites collection of bagged rubbish only.
any rubbish left strewn around is covered by the street cleaners.
there is where the problem is, some are very good, some or not.
A lot of the strewn rubbish comes from the blasted bags!! Because we have to put the black sacks out early (I always put mine out before 07.00) the seagulls rip them, the binmen chuck them and cars sometimes drive over them. And NO-ONE CLEANS UP!!!!!

Collections where I live are just a bit too early so we have to put stuff out the night before - usually as late as possible. What little food waste we put out is usually wrapped in another bag inside the black sack and that tightly tied (as per Ross's suggestion above). Although it doesn't make the sack(s) totally immune to attack it does seem to help a bit.

Recycling day today. I sorted all the tins and bottles into the black box, all the cardboard into the blue bag, I had one cardboard box to large to cram into the blue bag so decided to leave it next to the blue bag. Unfortunately they left the cardboard box as it wasn't in the blue bag! You have to pity some people!

Seems a bit over the top to call for a cull on seagulls and foxes just because we do not have the collective gumption to find a way to dispose of our waste food in a manner in which they cannot get at it. It is a commentary on our throw-away society and the surfeit of food which we enjoy that we are in this position.
One of our cats has just ripped open a black bag in the kitchen to get at some discarded chicken. Clearly therefore for a cull to work it would have to include cats, dogs, badgers and most of the rest of the animal kingdom. Everything that flies in the air and crawls on the ground, everything with fur and everything with feathers. In the land of the black plastic binbag, the creatures of the earth must be offered up to the great god SITA.
The binmen will have to be armed and given a licence to kill. A binman hitman must ride shotgun on the top of each refuse truck, equipped with an anti-aircraft gun for seagulls, bazookas and RPG's for large domestic animals, and a revolver for the small fry. Seagulls - rat-a-tat-a-tat, badger - blam, fox - splat. The bloodied bodies of the kill could be hung along the sides of the wagon. Binman red in tooth and claw.

ED
wELL done for im with you on this.
We should be the ones to provide adequate disposal equipment
as you say where does the killing stop
Ed - I love the images, and already know some people who would queue up for the job if it had a new job description as above!
Thank you - a bit of sense. It's our mess, we pay to have it cleaned up, just hire people to do that. Sack the ones who don't. Simples.

I make a point of washing out the recycle glass & tins, with rubbish wash out the obvious ie take-aways etc, but this could soon get to the stage of 'we only take away clean rubbish' . I can just picture the image of the APC Rubbish Truck

And Barry they will soon tell you, you are wasting that precious resource water. How sustainable is that and with metering at what cost.?

water is the biggest con going paul.
they keep telling us that we should all go on meters and save money.
what business wants to charge us less for their product?
the moment we are all on meters the rate will go up to keep their coffers full.
