12:0435198I just spoke to Nigel Collor - the freight vehicles parked at the lower end of Maison Dieu Road have been there for three hours. A driver parked on Snargate told me he had not moved for four hours!
We tried to get into work at the docks via Castle Hill and found it was blocked solid with freight. From our office window as I type in appears that Jubilee Way appears still to be closed - no traffic is trundling past at all.
The port of Calais is still shut, and one's heart goes out to the poor passengers trapped in the Tunnel all night. Forget the A2 completely! It looks as if the Immigration strike in Calais couldn't have fallen on a worse day for the union, the place is so disrupted, who will notice the difference?
Yet again the population of Dover trying to go about their business appears to be at the mercy of freight. Still, it looks pretty.

15:5335223Very nice pictures on the front page Paul.
Re A20 (and A2) still gridlock in Dover at 1440hrs.
I walked to my White Cliffs job at 0800hrs this morning and it seemed no-one had any control of vehicles entering Dover (no operation stack although tunnel not working and Calais shut).
Just back from the town which is empty (pity the poor shopkeepers on the busiest Saturday of the year). Pencester empty as no buses able to get in or out of Dover.
There must be a enquiry as to how the paid officials (Police/Highways) etc can get Dover into this mess yet again.Heads must roll and not the usual pathetic excuses.
Perhaps if Mr Brown put some money into the correct road infrastructure in Dover it might help. After all the freight is supposed to be for the benefit of the country as a whole. I understand the pollution levels without this gridlock is above the maximum EU health safety levels and I am sure if this was in France the A20 would be blocked until the Government done something.
During the day all side roads partially blocked ie Leyburne Rd/Taswell Street/ Godwin Road as people try to work out where to go to get to the docks because no police assistance.

16:4835226Pat there are buses running to and from River but whether they get into town i dont know .

17:0735228Thanks Sue
In a period of about 20 minutes at 1430ish this afternoon no local or longer distance buses in Pencester.Only one or two waiting at bus stops
The problem being both lanes of Maison dieu blocked by lorries for the docks, no police keeping them int he inside (lefthand lane) that would have given access to Pencester.
Perhaps they turned round near Charlton Green ???

18:1435240Lovely day in Dover, parked at Langdon Cliffs, walked down along the seafront, up the Heights and bearly saw a sole on route, lunch in town, back round the Castle and back. Was amazingly quite which was highly unusual
Can't really blame the authorities, pre Christmas rush, with Calais closed to freight, Tunnel with problems, plus roads that cannot be gritted because of the traffic on them. Feel sorry for the people as my car registered -4C when I left earlier !!
Been nice knowing you :)

18:2035242Brian: There is no Op. Stack in place or the traffic wouldn't be gridlocked the way it is.

18:5535248The town must have lost tens of thousands in trade today due to inability to access the shops and closures due to staff shortages as they could not get to work. One of my colleagues got caught on the A2 and took five hours to get from Canterbury to the docks.
Maison Dieu Road about ten twenty:

08:3035276Good photo Paul - was that taken from Langdon Cliffs ?
Folkestone Road didn't clear at least until 03.30 this morning, probably later.
Didn't see any evidence of any "official" help from any where or any one; I'm sure there must have been (?), but didn't see it.
