Thanks Brain old gentleman now am I. yes it did come down and was taken back to the town hall but there was no sign of it again before the service. according to Military Law the union flag should not come in contact with the ground sadly this did a bad Omen for our town.

I have started my own thread about this, but I have a photo of the flag mast that shows clearly that the halyard is intact, therefor no reason to not fly the flag, and please don't tell me that the flag was damaged and that it is the only one they have!
It was a disgrace.

rather unfortunate that a few people chose to ignore the request from morrison's management earlier to observe the silence.
a nice individual touch from our french counterparts.

We were coming through the town in the car so couldn't actually stop but did observe the silence. I was impressed to see several people stop though and also the two estate agents in Miles and Barr were standing in silence - well done them.
I think that more of the younger generation are joining in the Nov 11th remembrance day services now because of more recent wars that our lads and lasses have been fighting in. It brings it home to them because some of them may know of lads or lasses they know who have been involved in conflicts, some paying the ultimate price.
One thing is for sure , we all - every one of us - owe all the men and women who have died in all the wars, a debt that can never be paid. All we can do is remember and thank them for what we have today. Remember them with love, gratitude and respect. May they all rest in peace xx
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

phil I think the flag is ok bet it was a disgrace that it came down in the first place.i had a look at the flag pole at 0800hrs this morning, look like the rope where fix the flag has jammed at the top,and besides I don't think flag was attatched to the rope properly in the first place.

what i can't work out is who is responsible for the flag, i was told that it was the town hall but that doesn't sound right to me.

I assume that "YourLeisure", being the lessees of the hall, are responsible for the flag. The pole and halyard by the way are both new having been erected on April 22nd last year. I only know that because I was panicking about St George's Day.

No-one is going to own up to this are they? The hardest part of raiseing the Union flag is getting it the right way up, otherwise you just conect the englefields, conect the safety wire (They do use a safety wire don't they?) and away you go. I can see those in charge of this hideing away in dark corners as we speak.
