01:0315538I remember when I was a little girl my Grandad gave me a book called "Sixty years a queen" . It was of course the story of Queen Victoria and what a life she had. I treasured that book.
Personally I think our present Queen should retire now but not because she's not up to the job, because after all her hard work over the years I think she deserves to be able to relax and enjoy what's left of her life. She's devoted her whole life thus far to her country - that's as our Queen for the last 57 years. She is loved by people worldwide and cares about people. In her shoes I would hand the reins to Charles and Camilla and spend some quality time with her husband just enjoying her retirement. She is more than up to continuing as Queen but she deserves a break and I think Charles should be given the chance to take over.
Just my view and I know a lot of you will disagree with it but everyone is entitled to a view surely?
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

08:3815542You're right Jacqui, every one is entitled to their own view; my view is that Charles and Camilla are most definitley NOT fit to be King and Queen of England/Great Britain/UK
I think she should keep going until William is ready (whenenever that is) - that's if she is able to of course.

08:5815543So, what are the criteria for "fit to reign"?

09:4815544Charles will be a good king when HMQ dies and William after he dies. Thats how it works, monarchs do not 'retire' unless there is some scandal as in the 1930's. I dont care for the idea of Camilla as queen but she is his choice, so be it. But then I did not care for Diana either once I had seen more of her - demonstrably unsuitable for the role but that is another argument.

10:1715548A focus on duty first and foremost - the example set by our present queen.

21:0015565the main thing is to appear to be totally apolitical, in my view.
the abilty to hold ones arms behind one back, when addressing a member of the proletariat is a plus.
looking interested when someone tells you that they are a bog attendant, opening an old people home and listening to the new residents tell you that they met the queen mother during the blitz.

08:0715585So.............if I am hearing this right, the ability to look interested but be thinking of other things, an ability to turn up to events and stay upright, DNA that has some German Royal genes in it, and a teflon coating. These are the qualities we are seeking in a monarch? Please correct me if I am wrong...............

20:1715622i suppose putting a suit of armour on and leading the proles to certain death in a battle might be top of some people list.
i am quite happy with the christmas day message to the commonwealth and listening to the duke of edinburgh make comment that causes widespread chortling.
