On a serious note it has all got worse over night with a new ash cloud heading towards the UK. I just wonder how many air lines will go to the wall over this.
I would think some of the small and low cost air lines could well end up in financial problems and no doubt the cost of flights will hit an all time high.

The single biggest cost to airlines is fuel. As the planes aren't flying the airlines won't be buying fuel. Revenues will of course be badly hit, but I doubt any well-run airline will disappear as a result of this event.
