16:0882261On saturday at the christmas light switch on i must say how disgusted i was with the choice of out fit the dover carnival princesses were wearing and the deal ones to , as a mum to a ten year old girl i would never let my daughter wear something like that in public it was far to short and im sorry with all the sickness in this world i feel it was sending out the wrong message and also where have the girl next door types gone? a fair few of them upon the stage were covered in fake tan, make up and heels at a young age .

16:3082275You don't need pelmet skirts and a low neckline to look beautiful...

16:3882280Quite the opposite, in fact, Kath. The flesh-display catches the eye for a moment, but it is the more demure beauty that attracts and maintains.

16:5882292Hi All,
In response to the comments above and knowing how Carnival Threads of any kind tend to escalate out of control.
I ask you to bear in mind the following:
1. All the girls chose their own outfits.
2. The Dover Girls with the exception of one (adult) lady wore thick black lycra
tights under their Santa suits.
3. The Junior Girls wore thick red woolly tights with shorts over the top.
4. All the Dover Girls were provided with wide woollen wraps which completely covered their shoulders and was pinned at the front. (no low necklines).
5. I cannot comment on Fake Tan and / or Make Up however as this is personal to each girl, it is most certainly not requested or required of them.
In addition, the aim of the girls being in town was to raise funds to ensure that Dover has a bigger and better Carnival in 2011.
The Deal girls came to support Dover and the girls worked extremely hard collecting over £300 on Saturday to add to the £500 they raised at a sponsored walk the previous week. This is a fantastic start and their enthusiasm and professionalism should be praised.
I will of course forward your comments to the Committee as the new Dover Town Carnival Committee are determined to see that Dover Town Carnival and The Court of Dover adhere to all Child Protection Policies and are currently applying for affiliation with Kent Youth.
I hope this helps to explain a little, I hope that you can wish the girls well as fundraising for a Carnival is a big ask of so few court members.
If anyone wants to know anything more, please do not hesitate to email me.
Thanks
Michelle (aka Sheli)

17:0082293I didn't see the outfits, sadly, as I was unable to attend, so have only commented on a concept, not a fact! I guess sometimes it is possible to create an impression without baring the flesh....? I know young girls like a bit of slap and fake tan, and it is better than allowing them to use sun beds!!
Nevertheless - good luck and good wishes to all the girls - they all work hard, I know, and are appreciated by the Town.

22:0882358excellent post from michele, she is right to calm the situation before it gets overboard.
unfortunately this has gone national with the usual suspect making it an issue.
for what it,s worth i think that the girls should have been stopped from wearing the outfits.

11:2482389The problem is that the trend is to wear less and less. The Santa outfits in the picture seemed pretty restrained to me, considering that many young girls and women walk round with precious little covered at the best of times, and if covered, so tight that NOTHING is left to the imagination.
I suspect that trend will change. After all, people (well females) can hardly go around wearing less than they do at present.

16:1082435How has it gone national, Howard? With all due respect, it is interesting to us, but nationally?
