I`ve just been summoned, swarms of flying ants both front and back of the place and next door neighbour`s house. An annual event, they`re everywhere.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
Colin, looks like the macro lens comes out! Look forward to photos!

Bob, the current state of them would be of more interest to Jeane methinks.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

But if you insist. They are incidently, all up the door and main wall and round the front.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

An annual event as Colin says, this year they are just a little bit early as it usualy happens in the last two weeks of July.
Wet and humid and then the hot weather must have brought them out a tad early.
More and bigger ones are due to emerge yet. Shut yer windows.

I've got them as well Colin. I watched them emerging from between the spaces in the patio slabs. I put the hose on them but it made no difference, they just flew away, never attempted to come indoors though. Food for the birds I suppose.

This one never made it, still with it's wings on it was back to the nest and re-cycled.
After they take off and land for the first time they loose their wings.
and start looking to set up a new colony.

On hot days in the summer the green woodpecker visits our lawn for the ants. Today there was a pair of green woodpeckers, they came right up to the french windows and looked in at us, seemed very tame. Then one of them stood opposite a collared dove on the bird bath and had a staring-match and stand-off with it. What huge powerful beaks they have (the green ones I mean). I think they must have had a nest nearby. They really do have a good go at the ants in the grass, and sometimes stay quite a while having a feed.

We had a severe infestation of ants and flying ants in and around our conservatory last week.
All gone now, thanks to ant powder and spray, but so many to kill - the corners were black with them.
There's a few in the garden still - in the lawn, but nothing to worry about.
