I have for months had to put up with a commercial vehicle parked outside of my house .The driver of this recovery vehicle refuses to park it outside of the house where he visits .Sometimes its here for days .There is room on my neighbours drive .I cannot see why I have to look at this vecicle when there is room for it to be parked outside of my neighbours house .I have asked him if he could just once in awhile change hs parking routine
The Police advise there is no rule about parking of commercial vehicles unless they are causing an obstruction .
The way he parks does cause difficulty for the people opposite to come out of their drives .
Sadly it seems the norm for commercial vehicles to be parked in the streets .I suppose it save on having overnight garages
The fact there is a 75 bed Nursing Home at the end of the Close makes no difference .When the clinical waste lorry ,ambulances ,food delivert lorries arrive its a free for all
Yet the police have no powers .
.
If there is a risk of ambulances and fire engines not having access to a nursing home or even private homes he is causing an obstruction - the risk to life outweighs other risks and benefits, and it doesn't have to be his vehicle that creates the obstruction: if he might impede traffic flow in an emergency he is at fault. The police are being a little lazy here and should know this. Have you a friend who can park in that spot when he moves and just keep it? Get a skip? Have a friendly proper local copper have a word in his shell-like about potential consequences if he does impede traffic flow and someone dies? Failing that, Sue, handbag him!!!!

Bern thank you for these suggestions .My son has thought about parking his car here as he share drives with my othe son, however both sons frequently work abroad .This is the old story of a woman living on her own ,and a bully..I had a problem with this unsavory person before ringing me with offensive suggestions .I did report it and my younger son gave him an earful Its remarkably as when I had my cabinet post I had to deal with these sort of problems with some of our social houing tenants .We have all sorts of ways of dealing with tenants who breach tenancy conditions but in the private sector its a different ball game Believe me some people who own there homes are far worse..
Yes the handbag did pring to mind but after speaking to him last night I had a wee dram .

Yes unfortuately or fortunately depending on your point of view, there arent rules for everything, so there are Im sure many areas where the police cannot intervene. The only way, as was suggested, is to arrange for a more visually attractive car to park in the spot, even if you have to buy one yourself. A humble little Morris MInor in green perhaps would be good, you can still get them quite cheap as I understand it, and they are pleasing on the eye even though old. The preferred vehicle of district nurses one time. The only downside is that it would have to be taxed, as its parked on the queens highway kind of thing...but it might be worth it.
And now that your not a cabinet member anymore Sue, think of all those happy hours you can spend cleaning and polishing it. An activity much loved by cul-de-sac dwellers on a sunday morning!

There are actually a lot of roads in Dover that have this problem. Clarendon Place, Clarendon Street, Longfield Road, Lowther Road etc. Somehow the emergency vehicles and buses manage to get through though. In my road we get quite a few big vans that park, some overnight and some during the day. An ex neighbour once complained to the police about it and was told that as long as a vehicle is taxed and insured and not on double yellow lines or blocking a private driveway they are not breaking the law. She then went to the council and was told that if they got enough complaints they would put double yellow lines down the road so no-one could park there, including of course the residents.
To be fair these drivers have to park somewhere. My son-in-law drives a sprinter van for work and he parks outside so I'm a bit biased. Maybe you should have a friendly word with the guy and ask him nicely if he would mind parking elsewhere? I always find that being friendly and reasonable gets more results than being confrontational. I'm a lover not a fighter
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
Another good thing about a Morris Minor (and I love them!) is that you can convert it to a decorative plant pot and keep geraniums in it. They would look good emerging from the windows, and ivy can be trained around the pop-out indicators. Lovely!

Sue
there you have it realy, more and more commercial vehicles are being taken home, take this with more and more cars coming onto the road, we will come to gridlock.
Lots of n/bours disputes end up being about not being able to park outside your house, and on top of this with more and more cars on the road that means less and less places to park.
The situation will get worse rather than better.
Its a shame more isn't done to encourage people onto public transport.
There are many that make short or long journeys in the car, that could have been done on public transport.
Then theres those parents who take there kids 3 roads away to school and it goes on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Sue there aint an answer at the moment
can't see one on the horizon either,
thought leafy River was such a nice place lol

Or get to talk to him for an hour or two,he would never come back to your road,River Dover or this country again, sorry Vic
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
I wonder if this mis-parking miscreant realises what a Hornets Nest he is stirring up. The Dover Forum Forumites for Parking Justice Group would be a formidable crew...................

My suggestion is that you get onto the company he works for and inform them of your dis pleasure and the very bad publicity its attracting by his inconsiderate parking. You may wish to mention its being discussed on the web which can only lead to bad press etc.The driver may then get a rocket from his boss and park elsewhere.
