Before Alexander gets on his high horse about church closures
he might like to read todays Dover Mercury which will explain to him that the decision to close the church in Beaconsfield Rd Dover
was made by the Church council(not anything to do with the council)
The church council, will decide what to do with the land, and are looking to sell it and probably houses built
They have to get the best return for the church authorities.
Falling numbers being given as a reason for the church council deciding to close the church

didn't think it was still operating as a church, the ark christian centre seems to have creamed off most of the business in dover.

You will recall Howard Alexander was under the impression the Christchurch church on Folkestone Road was closed by the council, just trying to help, church's are closed by Church Councils, those running the church's
nothing to do with local authorities

Keith, my Church is up at the Castle.
I'm not short of a Church. It belongs to the Fair Lady.
Perhaps ballot stations will be closing down, most people don't see a point in using them.
In the census most people declare to be Christian, but don't vote.
I wouldn't be a member of a party that didn't declare the Christian Faith as Britain's sole official Faith.
Oh and Keith, you cannot force me to do against this my wish and will

cannot see any faith being official, up to individual consciences.

Church and pub are the cornerstones of English culture that have stood quite literally for millenia. In the space of a few decades they are undergoing a mass extinction that reflects the broader picture of that culture.
Normally such socio-historical processes are glacial, fully discernible only in retrospect and not in your own lifetime, but in this case it is possible to see tectonics events unfolding before your eyes. It is like watching the earth's very crust shifting.

Howard, Neil and Jan severely reproved me for not voting at the County elections.
But then, 70% of the entitled electorate did not vote!
Party membership used to be 3 million + with the two mainstream parties: now it's just tens of thousands.
At the election in May, I didn't vote, but went up to the Castle, and to Church, renewing my English membership.
I'm right here, folks!
Our future is in the Church!
Why bother voting when our Church is there for us?
If you vote, they won't listen to you.
Prosperity comes from High.
Government can't make the sun shine and can't make it rain.
Young people should be taught to bring thanksgiving to the Church In High!
Our forefathers built the Church on Christ's Foundations, they did if for themselves and for us and for our posterity.

I do not remember severely reproving you but I would have said those who do not vote have no right to complain about the council or councillors they get.
