Beautiful Dover!
- 27 April 2009 07:0220225Yesterday afternoon we went to see my beautiful grandson in Ashford. It was such a lovely sunny day and we had a great day playing with him in the garden and then having tea on the patio - really relaxing. We left at about 7.30pm and as we drove down the final part of the M20 where you can see the channel it was magical. The coast of France was so clear and there were loads of ships out there, ferries, coasters, tankers and a few small craft too. We went and sat up at the Western Heights carpark on Military Hill to look at the view where others had the same idea. After about an hour we set off home, stopping at our favourite fish n chip shop at Buckland bridge and arrived home just in time to watch my favourite chef, Marco Pierre White, in Hells kitchen. I have to say that was one of the best days I've had for a while now and I'm so glad I live in Dover.

People do moan about the place and its facilities, which I do understand, coming from Manchester, but I never had the view from my bedroom window that I do now, which is a view overlooking the channel, the valley of Dover and its Castle, for a city girl it is a piece of paradise. I don't ever see myself moving back up North now after 20 years. - 27 April 2009 09:5520244Jacqui, that's my own favourite view as well!! On those evenings when I head home after a long day in London, I so look forward to breasting that hill and seeing the sea, the harbour, the lights. In the Spring and Summer it is gorgeous with natural light and in the Atumn and Winter the harbour lights and the lights vaguely visible in France are magical. Worth the drive!!! I won't be working in London for much longer (Hurrah!) but I will still make the effort to catch that view!
- 27 April 2009 11:5620250Had 60 people on guided walks on the Heights this weekend and the were all amazed by the history, countryside and views that we have.
People travelled from Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes, Somerset amongst others to come to our town

Wonderful views of dover from that valley. Until the motorway was built. You can even hear the trafic noise at the bottom of the cliffs. ( I know its what we call progress but it was a catalyst for me leaving Dover )
- 27 April 2009 23:5020297Can't argue with this one - Dover does have some amazing scenes for the old peepers. The thing I really like about the place is that you can go almost anywhere and get a great view, north, south, east or west.

It's where I walk our dogs and I usually take my camera with me. I have great pictures from there looking out towards the castle and the sea in all weathers.
