............will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for re-surfacing. Oh that they would, no it's only patching up of course.
I'm glad about this as we've had potholes for years.
I'm not glad about this as it means that it will be even more of a rat run when the main road traffic is heavy.
Until recently on-line maps have shown it as Beaconsfield Road(!), now it's Erith Place(!!). I grant that three houses at the end next the pub are called that, but not the whole road. Strange.

Looking at the instruction there written on the road reminds me of the time just after all the cable TV cabling had been done. Someone somewhere decided to plant trees on the pavement and sent somebody else out to mark their placement. An arrow war painted on one slab, pointing to the slab to be replaced by a tree. So for a year or so each new tree had this arrow pointing to it.

What did the whole sign say?.
Perhaps this picture should go in the caption competition?

"Freight's not bothered"?
"Rights not honoured"?

Broken off from the top was a large round P sign. Underneath, "Lights Not Required" Sorry Tom, boring really.

The sign is quite historic really, because, I think, it dates back to the days when all parked cars had to display lights at night, either their sidelights or one of those little parking lights that used to be attached to the car windows. Motorists would be fined if they were not displayed. It would appear that on this stretch of road, those lights were not required. What a pity the whole sign does not survive - it would have been a good exhibit for Dover Transport Museum - still could be, I suppose, if someone was able to restore it.

From an age when there was so much more style. Have a look at this website to see how things have changed and, in my opinion, become blander.

I would like, if possible, to ask Terry Nunn some questions about the comment that he made in October 2012 about Buckland Terrace: "...closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for re-surfacing. Oh that they would, no it's only patching up of course.
I'm glad about this as we've had potholes for years."
If he received this, could I please ask him to e-mail me at
Mainwaring@clerksroom.com
I would be most grateful, Henry Mainwaring.
