19:2929697work is going on to open another cafe as above.
seems a bit optimistic as there seems to be fewer retail outlets within to get footfall from.
the newly opened stall selling kent only produce is now newly closed.
another cafe has opened a few doors away too.
maybe they know something about regeneration that we don't?

08:0129705From talking to the Lady concerned Howard, she already operates another cafe in Dover and feels that opening this one in the market will do well - I believe it is to be called "Uncle Sams".
It is hoped/intended that it will bring much more people into the market to spend their money and enjoy her food.
Good Luck to her - hope it works. We do have a plethora of cafes in Dover, hope it's not one too many.

09:0129709we do need the market to be more busy and vibrant though for the cafe to succeed.
i go in their regularly and come out without buying anything, should not be that way.

11:0729712I would like to see the market hall open up again ,I think there is a call for it now, down that way it would help to get the public down there to.it could be a food market so that would not take them away from the other market, even if it were 3days aweek storeholders from outside the town and could also set up there and now the bad weather on its way it might just pay for itself.

The Market Hall was pulled down years ago, only the frontage was kept, and now that is part of the Dover Museum.

14:5829723I wonder if Vic meant the old indoor market in Bench Streeet by the under-pass ? If so there are moves afoot to give that another use, but negotiations are at a delicate stage so nothing can be said yet.

16:4629732Yes that is the one I am on about, the public go around alot looking for good markets ,I love walking round them just look at the one that was at Folkstone,we are all looking for good buys at this time get the right folk running it and it would pay for itself.Last time was not agood time and not set up right, but i now think the time is right,it would also help to get other shops open again.

21:3829771If some nice foodie smells come out of the indoor market, and it is cleanand tidy, footfall might increase. The smell of good food is a popualr and perennial draw!!

22:0529777I was always in there with my mum and dad just after the war. It was always full up and sold most things and all the other shops in the town where doing well, the town was always full of the public, and in the 1950s I was standing on the streets selling the Star Newspaper.
