23:0414204try not to be sexist gary.
newspaper deliveries are out of fashion now anyway.
most newsagents go out of their way to avoid this, no point really in continuing when someone leaves the house at 7 am, then a spotty disaffected youth person arrives at 8 30 to deliver the said journal

09:1014218Whilst you may appreciate what superstores bring to Dover????
The effect it has on small local business's you should also consider.
look at that town now!
its depressing, and this is now a negative outlook, just one that is so down that our town is like it is, I love Dover and always will.

Cheap shot calling me sexist, you know what I meant, but I do apologise to all papergirls for omitting them. Since when was giving kids a job with a bit of responsibility and a bit of cash, a fashion, what I am trying to say is if we all went back to buying newspapers from local shop, any local shop, and delivered by paperpersons, we would be giving more kids a better start in life, than they have now.
As for calling them all spotty disaffected youth, isn't that discrimination?

10:1914235Since asking the question "has anyone gone back to milk delivery or paper delivery" it recieved 77 hits.
Am I to take that, you all, already do the above, or none of you have bothered?

it is actually difficult to get newspapers delivered by "young operatives", shops do not earn enough out of it to make it
viable.
milk delivery is viable for single people whose milkman arrives before they go to work, families would be mad to purchase their dairy products this way.
the supermarkets are far cheaper.
just as an addendum, a lot of people(myself included) do not have the same newspaper every day, so the result is
that purchase from the shop is the only option.

13:0714339Gary,
I have my newspaper delivered and I only live two minutes walk from the shop. Call me a lazy b----r if you want but there is nothing better on a cold, wet, windy morning than picking up the paper from the mat and sitting down with a nice cuppa rather than having to brave the elements. They charge 30 pence per day, I don't know what other shops charge.
With regard to the milk, we only get through a pint a week so it is not worth it.

I too live very close to shop, yes it it nice to have cuppa and read paper first thing in morning. our milkman only delivers 3 times a week, so i still get my excersise.
