11:336596Grim news is eminating from the depths of Kent Messenger group, they have taken a serious hit with a massive downturn in ad revenue..and so, the recession bites! A large organisation like KM can feel the pinch as much as anyone else. Many redundancies are on the cards and also...sadly
the closure of the Dover office of the Dover Mercury.
This means the Dover Mercury will in effect be written elsewhere, an unpalatable thought...and dear oh dear what's to become of legendary newshound the dogged Graham Tutthill?
Cant imagine a town without him churning out the words.
This isnt very good at all. Once again Dover seems to come off worst in all these things, somehow always at the back of the queue for good news.
ITV Regionals are feeling the pinch too and it looks like local TV output will be seriously reduced according to Teletext. Terrible times for the news/media business. If ITV reduce their local output any further or spread their coverage any wider they willl cease to have any local meaning.

11:596597Potentially very bad news indeed. Graham Tutthill was a colleague of mine in my East Kent Mercury days and he's a top bloke. I hope he can continue in his role as the DM's Mr Dover a la DE's Terry Sutton.

19:386609Can't speak for the business but I am not rubbing my hands in glee at 61 people losing their jobs, especially when the prospects of getting something else locally are so grim for them.

09:586622Sad news indeed. I see your office is closing for a week next month Kathy. Anything sinister in that for the future of the DE in Dover?

10:506624Very saddened to hear of the closure, always fair reporting and in touch with the local issues at the KM.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

12:496627I HAVE always respected the mercury reporters who have always reported fairly and not taken sides, and it will be a sad loss to any cutbacks in the mercury office which would serously affect fair reporting on Dover
