I noticed this morning that a lot of large trees have been cut down inside the entrance along Crabble Avenue.
I am hoping this has been done for a good reason?

Sadly, DDC is having to remove a number of ageing beech trees in Crabble Athletic Ground that are at risk of falling – work starts today and any removed trees are to be replaced with a variety of native species.
This follows a recent study carried out after one of the trees in the grounds fell and caused damage to a neighbouring property. Experts found that some of the trees presented a high risk, and works were recommended, including the removal of these over-mature trees.
We have written to residents in the immediate area, and we apologise for any disruption or inconvenience caused during the works.

Mature Beech of that size is worth a few bob as well, I know tree surgeons that will take the job on for free and make wages and profit from the lumber.
Would be nice to see them come back as public benches and such.

Well if you want some wood, help yourself
Will all the trees be going as most of the ones that have been cut down weren't as likely to fall on house as the ones that are still there?

Q. What is happening to the timber?
A. The timber has all been agreed with the contractors as an offset to the cost of the works on this occasion.
It would be nice if one of the stumps could be carved into a sculpture as a permanent reminder of those beautiful felled trees.

I think I read that new trees would be planted in the autumn.
I expect the autumn of which year wasn't specified.

Maybe they started with acorns or other tree seeds.
