Ive had very miserable news that my one and only daughter Briony has Swine Flu. Many of you know her well from the various parties and so on but its very disappointing news. You see these statistics on TV but somehow you dont think its real and you dont think its going to strike your immediates. Because of the alarmist TV coverage she has asked if she is going to die...she did feel very bad. ColetteB of course wont let that happen. So am keeping my fingers and everything crossed that she will be one of the lucky ones and that we will be soon over there at Nausicaa looking at the sharks.
Had some interesting information about this situation from Colette which is worthwhile passing on. You have to take the Tamiflu within the first 2 days of it striking otherwise its too late and you have to fight the strain on your own, with no drugs. The Tamiflu makes you worse if you dont take it sooner rather than later. You must take it at the beginning, so essential that you get in quick. I beleive too that you will shortly be able to by-pass the doctor for the first time ever and get the Tamiflu direct from NHS Direct.
Clearly this is quite a miserable flu. When it started in Mexico with the resulting headlines one never imagined that it would reach all the way to Dover but indeed it has.

It is a scary thing especially when it's your nearest and dearest affected. Please give Briony my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

PaulB & Family.
Very sorry to hear your news, there has been many outbreaks in Deal this week and with having four kids and three grandchildren myself, it is worrying. I sincerely hope you will be telling us, all is well, in a couple of days. Wishing you all the best.

I hope Briony gets well soon, PaulB, give her our best wishes.
The good news seems to be that it is really quite mild and nowhere as scary as they first thought it might be, despite some sad deaths recently. The media do tend to blow things out of proportion so I hope and trust that there is no real need for worry. Keep your chin up.
GET WELL SOON BRIONY!!!!!
WE ARE ALL THINKING OF YOU AND WISHING YOU WELL!!!! Loadsa Luv Mandie & the DCAL Posse xxx

Thinking of you all and hoping for the best.
I visited my old school in South London in June (which suffered a closure due to the scare) All was well and they re-opened in time for the 30yr leavers celebrations and Founders day - so NOT to worry.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that, PaulB. Please pass on our very best wishes. What a rotten shame for her, and a terrible worry for all the family.
Thank you very much for the information about Tamiflu. We hadn't realised how crucial it is to take it quickly, and that's important to know.
Poor Briony. We do wish her the very best.

Hi everyone, yes it has been a very worrying week, poor Briony has been very sick indeed and as Paul said she was very scared but we have turned the corner today and we are hoping she will improve in leaps and bounds over the next few days. We had two doctors opinions and also the NHS helpline were very helpful in the first instance. Thanks for all your good wishes and I have passed them on to BB. I am one relieved Mam albeit very worn out.

must have come as quite a shock to colette and paul, the press have not been very responible over the outbreak.
a fit healthy young woman like briony should recover very quickly.
all the best to briony.
This just goes to show what a bunch of asses run our media services. They are portraying swine flu as a deadly disease, reporting deaths and filling us with fear and dread. The reality is very different - swine flu is no worse than any other sort of flu, people do die of various flu strains but the vast majority recover. The broad mass of swine flu sufferers are recovering fine. Poor Briony has no doubt had a very rough ride with this illness but her fear was also stoked hard by what she's seen in our media. My friend and colleague Kaytie (many of you will know her as the brilliant manager at Absolute Graphix) has also been struck down with swine flu, and her initial reaction was fear and dread as was her little boy's, bless him, who thought his mum was going to die.
I don't wish to down-play the seriousness of swine flu at all, but I am SO fed up with the way our media pounds our heads with so much fear and crap all the time.
I am really pleased that Briony appears to have turned a corner. I have no doubt that a full recovery is just a matter of a few short days away.

absolutely spot on rick, the same result of normal flu.
the health supremo, liam donaldson, in his usual unthinking way, gave out the worst case scenarioo of 69000 deaths.
a moments thought would tell us that there are a lot more people than that, with terminal illnesses, extreme old age etc that would be finished by swine flu.
do the media and authorities ever stop to think the stress that they put on people with all this scaremongering?
No, Howard, they don't.

That is so true!
On Wednesday the school I take children to was closed due to a case of swine flu in one of the children. I had woken up that morning with a sore throat which normally wouldn't have worried me as it's usually the forerunner of a cold with me but because of the scare I was worried sick. Well I've still got a sore throat but that's all - I don't feel ill just a bit under par. However as Howard said, elderly people or those living alone must get very scared if they get any normal symptoms like me.
I hope Briony gets better very soon and is up and about again. She's such a lovely girl and always looks bright and healthy. Lotsa love BB - take care and I know your lovely mum and dad are looking after you. xx
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Jean is worried as she is one of those "at risk" people.
Her immune system is almost non-existent - if there's anything going, she'll catch it.
That's why she has to be so careful about dirty glasses in pubs or cutlery at a restaurant.
Germs are everywhere.
I'm surprised that they can't give these "at risk" people anything before they actually get it.
The hospital phoned yesterday and reassured her that if she does start to feel unwell, to contact them immediately.
Apparantly Diabetics are at risk too, so we'll hibernate until 2012.
