Hate to have to raise this subject so early but im digusted by the amount of dog's mess lining the pavements from sunny St Rads to River. This needs to be sorted out!

It must be one of the first signs of spring that a thread starts up on the forums about dog poo; it's a perennial problem that will not go away. I'd like to see a dog licence reintroduced and the proceeds go to local councils to pay for the streets to be cleaned. Either that, or to pay for Howard to tackle offending owners; he has a good track record on that!
Being pragmatic about it, there are so many owners that leave the streets fouled that it's a situation that's just not going to improve. Enforcing the fines is just not possible, the dog wardens have a full day's work just trying to round up strays and inspect the homes of prospective new owners, so I think the best way forward is to pay for the streets to be cleaned with the proceeds of a dog licence fee.
True friends stab you in the front.
I agree with you Andy. It turns my stomach and not nice when peole stand in it like my children often do from their walk from home to school and vice versa.

I`ve mentioned it on here in January all along the promenade up near the public loo`s.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

andy
given up on taking the matter up with people, too many arguments.
maybe the dog licence thing would work, but i hate to see the errant owners get off scot free.
surely PCSO's must witness this happening now and again, can they issue on the spot fines?
Why should Spot get fined when Bowzer is the culprit? Seriously though, I am against dog licenses as the usual miscreants won't bother to cough up, and besides, we already pay for street cleainnig in our Council Tax, and I object to paying twice for the same service.

this all reminds me of the northern comic that opined that he slipped over in some dog toffee, as he got up a woman came past and slipped over the same item.
he then said "i just done that", she then rubbed his nose in it.

Street-cleaning does not include clearing up dog-mess Sid.
There is a dog-warden and DDC have successfully prosecuted a (small) number of irresponsible dog-owners.
More notices have been put up on (general) waste bins to say they can be used for bagged dog-poo; I also believe they have advice about fines.
Roger
Surely it is a health & saftey issue so, why is it not included Roger?

I believe it's because cleaning dog poo is considered an environmental health issue, Sid, and therefore not to be touched by street cleaners. In the same way as all the dead badgers and foxes one sees lying along the roadside is 'waste' not to be handled by the people from SITA who clear the roadsides once every blue moon.

I'll ask Waste Services if the road-sweepers can be equipped with gloves and plastic bags to pick it up and let you know what they say.
Roger
Roger my love , i would be grateful if you could end my misery of clening my soles of my shoes every day due to a lil gift left by a generous dog.

sadly you are right ian, there is not the will.
another problem is that it reflects on the majority of responsible dog owners who are tarred with the same brush.
