Yes youre right Paul I need one of your walking tours. Not much of a walker though but I can do helicopter flypasts!!

Was hoping to see a major clearance down there, but it appears that it is mostly paths they have uncovered :(

So would I Paul but the other agencies had other ideas - you know the ones.
Habitats and ecology have played a big roll as have archaeology and others including the land owners

Family legend has it that my great grandfather, Herbert Sidney Chapman, a Dovorian businessman and inventor of the time, saw the plane land and was one of the first on the scene. I will have to enquire about any memorabilia that could lend itself to public display.

There was a question on Eggheads BBC2 the other night as to how long Bleriots initial flight took?
Without googling..answers please.

Can't think what the anniversary was but there was a re-enactment some years ago. It was featured in one of Ray Warner's Dover films. Martin Turner was an Immigration official who was shown.

PS You know Martin, talk to him for half a minute and he's bound to bring Radio Caroline into the conversation!

Well done ...as usual. Its pretty dam quick considering the year and mode of transport.
Ray Warner worked as a seasonal temporary immigration officer (STIO) for many years at Dover.I got to know him reasonably well .Very quiet and likeable individual. He used to love working the 6-8 weeks during the summer chatting to all the passengers leaving the UK.

I noticed today in the library that there is a cassette named "Voices from History" that has a sound recording of Bleriot's voice.
It had a number of leading sportsman, politicians and inventors etc.I must find my library card.
Howard
Nice to see you there rummaging through the large print section...only joking..

i am getting a bit fed up with the "mills and boon" stuff, a change was needed.
incidentally, there seems to be some doubt about the bleriot event taking place.
some residents of river and alkham have complained to their councillor about the noise level of the red arrows.
apparently it could upset their daffodils.

I was at the Biggin Hill airshow many years ago when a Vulcan bomber passed low over our heads and then went into a steep climb with the four Rolls Royce Olympus jet engines roaring down at us. The noise was incredible, the ground literally shook, and small children were screaming in fright. God was it brilliant.
